Aberdeen in for Murphy
Aberdeen in for Murphy
Wednesday, 4th May 2005 13:15

Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen have emerged as another club interested in signing Waterford United striker Daryl Murphy. Sunderland still appear favourites for the Irish U21 international striker's signature, with the Blues also keen on the 22-year-old.

The Black Cats are reported to be close to a deal with Waterford for a fee of £70,000, but Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood plans to watch Murphy in action for Waterford in Derry this Friday.

Murphy cannot move until the transfer window opens in the summer and Aberdeen will hope to persuade the former Luton Town trainee to make a move into Scottish rather than English football.

Irish Players' Young Player of the Year for 2004, Murphy has had two trials at Portman Road and impressed Joe Royle and his staff. The Town manager said after the frontman's second spell that he would sign him in the summer if the money was there and if the player was still available.
