Town chief executive Derek Bowden has revealed that the club have accepted Sunderland's bid for keeper Kelvin Davis. TWTD reported this morning that the former Luton and Wimbledon man would be in talks at the Stadium of Light this afternoon.

Bowden said: "Kelvin Davis is currently in Sunderland, I believe. We've accepted an offer from Sunderland for Kelvin. He's probably with Mick McCarthy now.

"If he can agree personal terms and likes what he sees up there, then I guess he will move on but it's very much in his court.

"We believe it's a fair offer for the player, particularly as he came in on a free transfer."

Bowden refused to disclose the fee but it is widely expected to be approaching £1 million, with a percentage going to the Milton Keynes Dons.

Boss Joe Royle has confirmed that should Davis agree to join the Black Cats, he will bring in another stopper.

Former Town loanee Paul Gerrard, who was with Royle at Oldham and Everton, and is now with relegated Nottingham Forest, may be a target, while Shaka Hislop is available on a free transfer having been released by Portsmouth.

Young keepers Lewis Price and Shane Supple are both highly rated but, with transfer windows being introduced into the Football League next season, a more experienced glovesman looks a priority.
