Released Town striker Pablo Couñago says he wants to continue his career in Spain despite receiving interest from English clubs. The 25-year-old was not offered a new contract with the Blues when his current deal expired at the end of the season.

Couñago told a Spanish paper: "There are teams interested in England, but that would be my last option.

"I know that I have some serious proposals in the Segunda División, but I to hope to see if some interest comes from the Primera Liga, although I know that it is difficult because my last year in England was hard and I do not have good statistics to show to the clubs."

The frontman says that despite a disappointing final season, he is glad he joined the Blues on a free transfer from Celta Vigo in 2001: "I do not regret moving. Going to England was the best decision I took in my life and I would recommend it to any friend who asked to me. It gives another dimension your football."

Last season the Spaniard turned down loan moves to Preston North End and Segunda División side Córdoba.
