Bristol Rovers After Jim
Bristol Rovers After Jim

League Two side Bristol Rovers are reported to be the club who have offered skipper Jim Magilton a player-coach role. Rovers, who are managed by another former Town captain Ian Atkins, parted company with previous coach Kevan Broadhurst on Friday.

Magilton has asked for extra time to consider his future after meeting with Joe Royle at the end of last week.

The Northern Irishman, who has been offered a new one-year Town deal on reduced terms, is keen to start a career in coaching and may consider a player-coach position at Rovers ideal for him at this stage of his career. The Pirates are understood to have offered Magilton a two-year contract.

Sources close to the player told TWTD last week that the 36-year-old was ready to leave the Blues after six years, however Friday's meeting with Joe Royle appears to have got the former Oxford, Southampton and Sheffield Wednesday man reconsidering whether to spend a further season with Town.

The ex-Liverpool trainee and his Merseyside-born wife eventually plan to move back to the North-West and the midfielder may decide to spend another season with the Blues before making his first steps into coaching with a club in that region in a year's time.
