Yallop: Give Jaime Time
Yallop: Give Jaime Time

Canada head coach Frank Yallop says winger Jaime Peters needs time to settle into English football but will be a big hit by the end of the season. Yallop helped persuade Peters to join the club where he spent 14 years of his playing career.

Yallop, under fire from some Canadian supporters for their team's lack of success in World Cup qualifiying and at the Gold Cup, told the club site that Peters has what it takes to go a long way: "Jaime's a good player. I have used him a lot playing for Canada and I see tons of potential there.

"I helped a bit in getting him to Ipswich. I thought it was the perfect club for him, although I'm obviously biased in that opinion having spent so many happy years at Portman Road myself.

"The chance to play, the chance to learn the game correctly, like all the youngsters do at Ipswich, makes the club a good choice and I think he will develop into a good player.

"He has a lot to learn but you can see the potential is there and in six to eight months, I think Ipswich will have a really top player on their hands."

Peters has made two senior starts and four substitute appearances since signing a two-year contract with the Blues after a protracted fight for a work permit in the summer.
