Town will not have a new loan player in their ranks when they take on Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday. Boss Joe Royle's attempts to bring in an experienced frontman ahead of the trip to Yorkshire have been unsuccessful.

Royle said: "The club concerned could not do anything so nothing happened yesterday. We are putting it to sleep for the weekend and will look at it again next week.

"Dean Bowditch has the promise but is not producing goals while Nicky [Forster] is closer to coming back but, even when he is fit, I would like three experienced strikers on the books."

Meanwhile, part-time academy coach Paul Hilton is reported to be in the running for the vacant manager's job at League Two side Bury. Hilton, who played with the Shakers in the early eighties, was previously mentioned in connection with the Gigg Lane gig when they were looking for a new boss in late 2003.
