Birmingham Row Rumbles On Thursday, 4th Jan 2001 16:49 While Town fans argue about whether or not we should sell David Johnson, in Birmingham the row over the Worthington Cup semi-final second leg continues. West Midlands police have confirmed that they have asked Birmingham to move their match with Town from Wednesday January 24th to another date. It seems that Villa will not be asked to move their fixture with Leeds scheduled for the same night, the reason behind all the kerfuffle. Police continue to be concerned about possible trouble with Supt. Howard Roberts saying "We have spoken to the club [Birmingham] and expressed our concerns about safety. We have asked the club to give serious consideration to approaching the FA to reschedule the fixture. We are still in discussions and hope to reach a satisfactory conclusion to the problem." We're not sure that the FA are the right people to go to over the Football League Cup, but we see what they are getting at. It seems the police cannot force Birmingham to move the fixture, but they are urging the St Andrew's club to seriously consider it. Birmingham City's only comment is to say: "We have heard nothing from the police asking us to change." Although previous reports have suggested that they are well aware of the police's worries. Don't book yur holiday yet, there's probably more of this to come.
