One-time Town loanee Mark Fish has finally confirmed his retirement from football. The South African's short career with the Blues consisted of 45 disastrous minutes at QPR in August.

Charlton defender Fish, 31, announced his retirement shortly after that game, but the Addicks claimed the statement, which had reportedly been released through his agent, was a fake.

Now, however, Fish has confirmed that a persistent knee problem has ended his playing days: "I didn't want to be one of those footballers that goes down the divisions.

"I reached the point where I struggled to get fit, and then I was struggling to meet the standards I set myself."
