Academy full-back Michael Synnott is targeting a place in the first team in 2006/07. The 19-year-old has missed most of this season after undergoing an ankle operation in October, having only recently recovered from knee surgery.

The Irishman told the club site: "I know I have to put the work in through the summer to build up the ankle and my fitness for next season.

"Next year is going to be massive for me. I've got to look to make an impression and break into the first team squad as soon as possible.

"When I was injured the club put my contract on hold for the year so next season is vital. I've got to break in and prove myself and I'm confident I have the ability to do that.

"This has been the worst year of my life but it has toughened me up and I'm determined to make my mark next year."
