Galway Friendly Announced

Irish club Galway United have confirmed a friendly with the Blues at Terryland Park on Wednesday, July 12th (KO 7.30pm). TWTD reported last week that Town's plans for a pre-season tour of Ireland were set to be revived.

New Galway boss Tony Cousins says the game will see him take on an old friend: "Jim and I go back a long way. We have both recently taken over as managers of sides whose primary aim is to get promotion to the top flight. It will be a useful exercise for us and we are looking forward to the game."

In addition to the game against the Eircom League Division One side, the Blues had been in talks regarding a game north of the border with Ballymena United but it is understood discussions have broken down.

The Galway game will be a homecoming for striker Alan Lee who hails from the west of Ireland town.

Town's academy, whose full-time scholars returned to training on Monday, will also be in Galway over the summer with an U14 side taking part in the Umbro Cup between August 8th and 12th.

The senior Galway match is being played on the date of the proposed MK Dons match which was cancelled a fortnight ago.

Details of Town's other pre-season games, including the tour of Belgium and Holland, can be found here.
