Bent Bid Snubbed?

Spurs are reported to have had a £10 million bid for Darren Bent turned down by Charlton. New Addicks manager Iain Dowie is claimed to be holding out for a fee of £16 million.

If Bent does leave the Valley the Blues will receive 20% of the profit on the £2.6 million they have so far paid Town for the England striker; the initial £2.5 million paid last summer plus payments of £50,000 when the frontman reached 20 and 40 appearances.

A fee of £10 million would see Jim Magilton's budget boosted by £1.48 million, with a windfall of £2.68 million on the way if Dowie, a close friend of Magilton, manages to negotiate a £16 million deal.

Newcastle United, Liverpool and Manchester City have also been linked with the 22-year-old, although the Merseysiders may have cooled in their interest since signing Craig Bellamy from Blackburn.
