None of the club’s successful managers over the years had massive resources available to them, but none have had to compete in leagues as inequitable as the current Championship.

There can be no debate about GK or LB positions. At CB, all can have their off days, the same as any other position, but by far the best CB at the club at the moment in my opinion is Berra and at 31 he is only reaching his peak in that position.
Unfortunately, while I like his physical commitment, heading ability and commitment, unlike Berra I don’t think Smith will ever be a CB who will be in demand by other top championship clubs. Smith’s pace, reading of the game and passing ability let him down.
I agree with Webster being taken out of the firing line for now, but he has the ability to develop into possibly a better CB than the other two, and MM will be well capable of teaching him the basics required to survive at Championship level. Though he has shown promise in his outings to date, he has also made a few basic errors and wrong choices.
There are not a lot of alternatives to Chambers at RB. While Webster could easily switch there, it is probably more in his interests to develop as a CB. However Chambers is clearly a leader who is in the team largely for that reason.
It would be good when the new players are match fit, to see Ward and Grant alongside Skuse, with Lawrence behind Best and Pitman.
With the back-up of Sears as an alternative to Best/Pitman , Bishop for Ward/Grant, Douglas for Skuse and, when they are fit, McGoldrick/Williams for Lawrence, the squad looks the strongest it has been in MM’s time.
However we should trust MM’s opinion for all positions as he sees the players every day, and we don’t.

It seems obvious that Evans no longer has millions to spend and if the club doesn't make the play- offs he needs to recoup a few million from players sales every year. The fact that a lot of “fans” seem no longer willing to put their hands in their pockets, despite the club doing comparatively well during the MM era, does not help the financial situation either.
Best, if he is motivated and realises this could be his last shot with a championship club, could be a decent signing on a free. He has physical presence, pace and can score. MM/TC seem to have the knack of getting the best out of such players.
Kightly will provide an alternative to Sears/Ward in the wide position, possibly freeing them for another position. He has a goal in him and would be suited to coming inside off the line in a 433.
Very disappointing to lose Murphy but he wasn’t going to last forever and at least both parties seem to be walking away satisfied with the deal.
