Town Bids Turned Down for Preston's Lonergan
Town Bids Turned Down for Preston's Lonergan

Town have made Preston North End three bids for goalkeeper Andrew Lonergan, according to reports in Lancashire this morning. The Lilywhites are said to have rebuffed the Blues' offers for the 24-year-old, who was rumoured to be a Town target on the TWTD Message Board earlier in the week.

Jim Magilton and Town were reportedly willing to offer North End a seven-figure fee for the former Darlington, Blackpool, Wycombe and Swindon loanee, but are now believed to be abandoning their attempt to sign the 6ft 4in tall keeper.

The Blues' moves for Lonergan, if the story proves to be true, appear to suggest that Richard Wright's proposed return to Portman Road has fallen through for a second successive summer.

Wright, currently West Ham's second choice, is believed to want to return to his old club, but in recent weeks the move appears to have stalled, perhaps due to interest from Aston Villa in number one Hammers' stopper Robert Green.

Over the weekend German sources http://www.clubfanzine.com/ipswich_town/v2.showNews.php?id=11769>linked the Blues with Wolfsburg glovesman Simon Jentzsch, while innumerable other keepers have also been linked with becoming Town's long-term successor to Neil Alexander since the end of the season.

would definitely be the best of all keepers linked so far, provided he is on a 4 yr contract, we can build our defence from the very back with this one
