Plymouth are set to make a £1 million offer for Danny Haynes, while the Blues are chasing released Sheffield United striker Danny Webber, according to this morning's tabloids.

Haynes was first linked with the Pilgrims a fortnight ago when Swansea were also linked.

The former England U19 international could be a candidate to move on this summer, having made little progress last season and having plenty of competition both up front and on the right side of midfield at Portman Road.

If the Blues are after free agent Danny Webber, then they reportedly face competition from Middlesbrough and Crystal Palace.

Webber, who started his career at Manchester United during Roy Keane's time as a player at Old Trafford, was released by Sheffield United at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old had joined the Blades from Watford for £500,000 in 2005 after a successful loan spell. The 5ft 9in tall frontman had been with the Hornets for two years, having left Manchester United for a nominal fee, also after a loan spell.

Webber, a former England U20 international, also had a spell on loan at Port Vale while with the Red Devils.

The Manchester-born striker, whose time with the Blades was hampered by injury problems, was previously linked with a loan move to the Blues in February 2008, when Palace were again said to be interested.

Webber scored 26 goals in 80 starts and 45 sub appearances for Sheffield United.

Meanwhile, neither Town nor Sunderland have commented on the proposed moves of Daryl Murphy and Dean Whitehead to Portman Road.

Chief executive Simon Clegg says moves are still ongoing as Town seek to add further players, but confirmed no names: "The situation is that we are still talking to players' agents and clubs about the final make up of this squad before the start of the season.

"Marcus Evans, Roy Keane and myself had a video conference on Thursday morning about contract situations and the progress that has been made over the last couple of days.

"Contract negotiations are not straight forward and you can get hitches at the last moment. I understand the fans' excitement, but it would be unfair to say anything until the ink is on the paper.”

Elsewhere, the rumour amongst Colchester fans is that Kevin Lisbie could be on his way back to North Essex just a year after leaving the U's for Town. We understand Lisbie is one of a number of current Blues who could be on their way out of Portman Road before the season starts.

The former Charlton man said at the end of last season that he is unwilling to move his family to Suffolk, as required by new boss Roy Keane.

Defender Jack Ainsley is expected to sign his first professional contract with Town either today or next week.

Released defender Chris Casement's Dundee career has got off to an unfortunate start with the defender picking up a knee ligament injury which will see him miss two weeks of pre-season.

Alan Lee appears unlikely to join Norwich permanently with Barnsley having made a Crystal Palace an offer nearer to their valuation, while the former Town striker and the Canaries are also said to have been a long way apart on personal terms.

Sunderland are reported to have made a bid of £12 million to Spurs for ex-Blue Darren Bent, a player the Black Cats have been linked with all summer.
