Town fan Geoff Willis has published what we think is the first book of poetry devoted to the Blues.

Portman Poems, “poetry with a punch”, is a collection of poems reflecting events at Portman Road from the early 1990s to the present day plus a few on more general footballing subjects.

Geoff says many of his verses are pastiches of familiar lyrics: “A fair number of the poems are parodies on old songs, which the older generation will readily recognise. — I grew up humming and singing along to such great songwriters and lyricists as Cole Porter and Irving Berlin.

“There are also hymn tunes which will be familiar to all football fans, such as Abide With Me and Amazing Grace. But for those readers who may not know some of the tunes, or who are tone-deaf, I hope the poems can be enjoyed without musical accompaniment.”
