Garvan No to Loan Switch
Garvan No to Loan Switch
Saturday, 26th Sep 2009 08:33

Boss Roy Keane has revealed that midfielder Owen Garvan turned down the chance to go out on loan to an unnamed club last week. Garvan has been out of Keane’s 18 for the last month.

The Town manager said that the switch was put to the Irish U21 international skipper but he wasn’t interested: ”One or two players had an opportunity to go out on loan last week including Owen Garvan, but he didn’t want to go. Some players don’t want to go out on loan.

“Owen had an opportunity last week, but he didn’t want to go and get some games.”

Recently, Garvan said he was determined to work hard to win himself a place back in Keane’s plans.

is this good or bad?

on the one hand he wants to stay and fight for his place, on the other a few games and a rich vein of form could see a recall from loan and straight into the team.

thoughts?

I don't see him as part of RK's plans so you would think the sensible idea would be to put yourself out into the shop window, or i suppose you could just sit in the wings and take the money!!

that's a very cynical but totally understandable viewpoint.

not sure Owen is the type to just take the cash, after all he would be guaranteed the same money if playing on loan somewhere and i thought he had a desire to play.

Imagine if Lisbie had refused to go out on loan!

Appears that some are unwilling to go on loan or bother to get in the team by good timekeeping , training etc.
A bit mutinous if thats a word

Looks like roy has found a few on his books who like a cushy number and collect their wages. It must really "annoy" him ! I would transfer list them immediately , window or no window.
Player power , its out of control. Look at scolari and the problems he had , even with his standing in the game. Disgraceful.

Thats an easy one Johnny_Boy

we'd have one more option for scoring a few goals, and still be shipping them at an alarming rate at the other end. A defensive improvement to a team is not something that Lisbie could ever be really accused of is it?

Too many sitting on their ass just taking the wages. In my opinion Roy transfer list them. They will then either go out on loan to put themselves in the shop window or like said above it stinks of mutiny, player power. Glad you're showing them whose boss.

Tough one to call this...

From the quote, “Owen had an opportunity last week, but he didn't want to go and get some games.”, it seems RK is a little disappointed that Owen didn't want to play a few games at a higher level than Town's reserves.

Fair play to Owen for wanting to work hard to get back into the first XI, but he's still relatively young and may need to swallow his pride, show a bit of application, and get a run of games under his belt elsewhere (possibly at a lower level like Trotter did at Scunthorpe) to force his way back into RK's plans.

All players have a bad run every once in a while. He'll turn it around sooner or later, can't understand why not though, would do him good seeing as he is having no luck at the moment.

Well, if Garvan can't get into that side that lost to Newcastle this evening maybe he should consider giving up football altogether!

Garvan is the only player that can pass a ball in our team!! Fact

It shows great character on Owen's part to refuse to play first team football elsewhere, he wants to play for Ipswich and I for one think Keane is being very stubborn about not playing him. He should be on the bench at the very least.

We all want Ipswich to be playing some good passing football and Garvan is one of the best passers we have.

I am sure that both Garvan and David Wright could add something to the current team?

Keane needs to swallow his pride ,his team is not working and seems to have no system so change it .Garvan has not been given chances like the rest of the under performers and good on him for staying put what player has ever done well after being loaned out in recent years ? Just get shipped out after stay and show them Owen !!

FACT is Keane doesnt like him.
Garvan didnt go out on loan as RK told him it was his decision apparently - stay & fight or go on loan

Garv wanted to stay and fight and then RK went behind Garvs back again and spread more rumours ..RK seems to be an egomaniac

Fact is Yorkie seems to have it right what he said about RK

The players who play for him are to scarred of him and Garv stood out and RK did not like it

This Garvan thing has always confused me, even under Magilton. I know I only see the home games (and occasional away games) but he seems to get himself dropped without necessarily turning in a bad performance. Like all players he has some duff games and he's still young and seems slow, but he's the only midfield player we have capable of picking out players across a wide range of vision and getting the ball to them. Do we want to call ourselves a passing side or not?

not any type of side any more - also
I believe Garv did not want to go to club that came in but may have gone to another club
