Supple Turns Down Chance to Replace Murphy Mon 30th Nov 2009 12:20
Former Town keeper Shane Supple has turned down the chance to replace new Blues stopper Brian Murphy at Irish side Bohemians. Supple would have played Champions League football with Bohs next season if he had taken up their offer.
The League of Ireland champions' boss Pat Fenlon said: "We made an inquiry about Shane as we need a new keeper with Brian gone to England, but he made it clear he has no interest in playing soccer, at least not at this point in time. "It's a pity as he would have been an ideal signing if it had worked out. He's a good age and has experience, he's played 40 or 50 games across the water. But he has made his decision and soccer doesn't interest him now so we'll look elsewhere." Since retiring from professional football in August, Supple has been playing Gaelic football for St Brigid’s and has been tipped for a call-up to the Dublin senior inter-county squad. Murphy formally joins Town when the transfer window opens in January, although he will be training at Playford Road from mid-December. Meanwhile, a report in Ireland is linking the Blues with Bohemians left-back Conor Powell. The 22-year-old, who has won nine Republic of Ireland U21 caps, was recently named the PFAI Young Player of the Year 2009.

Again, good luck Shane - That CONOR POWELL sounds a decent lad - anyone seen him play, guess he'll be buddies with Owen ? in the U21's. | 8 forum posts 218 news comments 1 match reports 0 blogs 0 polls | | Please log in to report abuse |

Does the irish call football for soccer or is Pat Fenlon just a bit odd? | 522 forum posts 37 news comments 0 match reports 0 blogs 0 polls | | Please log in to report abuse |

Dale, Fenlon doesn't say Supple has no interest in playing 'football' because Supple is actually playing football these days - Gaelic football. If he wasn't making this distinction, Fenlon would have used the word 'football'. | 0 forum posts 1 news comments 0 match reports 0 blogs 0 polls | | Please log in to report abuse |
