Leicester Midfielder on Trial
Leicester Midfielder on Trial
Tuesday, 29th Jun 2010 11:09

TWTD understands that Town have taken released Leicester City midfielder Robbie Burns on trial. The 19-year-old failed to play a senior game for the Foxes, but made two 14-minute sub appearances for Tranmere Rovers during a loan spell at Prenton Park during the 2008/09 season.

Milton Keynes-born Burns joined Leicester at 12, where he will have worked with Town first team coach Tony Loughlan, an academy coach with the Foxes until joining his former Nottingham Forest team-mate Roy Keane at Sunderland in 2006.

Meanwhile, Australian youngster Jared Austin spent time on trial with the Blues and Fulham at the end of last season, according to a report in his homeland.

Midfielder Austin, 19, is currently a competitor in Australian reality TV show Football Superstar in which a contract with A-League side the Brisbane Roar is the prize.

no senior appearances with Leceister and only 2 sub appearances with Tranmere - that's some pedigree....sounds like someone we cannot afford to let go...sign him up now...sigh....

why not take a look at him, might not have worked out at previous clubs but doesn't mean it wouldn't here, maybe paying in a different posistion etc might help him,

stop moaning, you want signings, lets see what happens, you seem to want gems, well this could end up being the biggest gem ever.

you lot make me sick. for gods sake give players a chance. plenty of players have been let go by one club and thrived somewhere else.

Shane O'Connor was a cast-off and was one of our best young players last season.

Well put Superfranz - too many idiots on here though! It's the nice easy thing to be negative! And it's only a trial...!

Superfranz...whilst i have no objection to the lad coming here on trial, you never know, to compare him with O'connor is a little wide of the mark.
O'Connor was released because he was at a top prem club full of expensive signings with international experience...in fact getting a ressie run out would have been good going....this lad couldn't break into the first team of a club who's last two season have been in the championship and league one....
Give the boy a chance by all means, some of the comments are a little dull, but dont go the other way and ignore realism totally

Same old boring comments. We are having a look at a 19 year old. What is the problem? The same people moan when we look at 32 year olds. There is no harm in having a look at him. Jeez.

To take someone on trial costs nothing. Sometimes a player needs a boot up the arse to get going and being released can change a players mind set. Many players go to clubs for a trial and 90% fail, sometimes you find a gem.

Ian Wright was invited to Palace for a trial when he was 22 whilst playing Sunday League football. Sometimes its better to wait and see how something works out before casting judgement.

It's a trial. If he is not up to it, he will be off. If he has something to offer, give him a contract. What is the problem?

Monkey, you're right. And, of course, I'm not getting carried away. But I remember similar comments last year about O'Connor. So, while I take your point, my point still stands. Some people will moan about anything.

leicester didnt want him so does that mean he aint good enoughfor our team if he does well on his trial too many people are moaning u want signings but when they happen people aint happy.I think people see roy keane as a man who expect him to get the likes of scholes, beckham, giggs etc but that aint going to happen unless we get out of this league wait untill roy has a team of his own and then see what happens to many if buts and maybes from town fans get behind the team instead of moaning about the managers job if it was that easy to manage and get players in why have high calibre managers been sacked!

Must be quality if Leicester let him go then........ Yet another demonstration of our "messiah" not having a bloody clue. And I have to say that Tony "yes man" Laughlan should not be anywhere near a training ground either. What does our assistant manager think of this player?? Oh yeah, Keane is still dithering on making an appointment isn't he??

Dont see a problem, IF, this wasnt the only positive movement in signing someone so far in the off season. Being linked isnt as positive as having someone on trial either.

Yet more negative comments from people who are clearly not Ipswich fans or who fail to read the article before jumping to conclusions. This guy is on TRIAL. It will happen all over the country - agents get their players trials. Some world class names have at one time or another been on trial. We probably won't even sign him, but why not see what he's like? What harm is there?

I like the idea of the TV reality show. I reckon Simon Clegg should be straight on the phone to Endemol.
