Keane Hoping for Premier Loan
Keane Hoping for Premier Loan
Thursday, 9th Sep 2010 14:05

Boss Roy Keane says he hopes to add a loan signing to his squad next week. The Blues manager says Town are currently in talks with a Premier League club regarding the proposed signing.

Keane said: “I think there’s a good chance we might add one player next week. We’re in discussions with a club and we’re hopeful, but we’ll see.

“Like a lot of Championship clubs, we’ll be looking at Premiership clubs, at players who might not be getting games and might fancy coming to the Championship, particularly the younger players.

“We were very lucky last year. We had some very good players, people like Jack Colback, who was outstanding for us, and you’re always on the lookout.

“We’re in discussion with a club and it’s all fairly positive at the moment and maybe something will happen next week, but we’ll just wait and see.”

Sunderland’s Colback has been linked with a return to Portman Road after his excellent 2009/10 with the Blues and would provide much-needed cover in midfield, while West Brom striker Luke Moore has also been mentioned in connection with the Blues.

Keane says Darren O’Dea is a doubt with the knee injury he suffered while away with the Republic of Ireland, while Shane O’Connor will be out for around three weeks after tearing a hamstring while with the Irish U21s.

Tamás Priskin, Márton Fülöp, Gareth McAuley and Conor Hourihane returned from international duty without injury, while Jaime Peters is due to back from Canada this afternoon but is also understood to be fit.

Connor Wickham, Mark Kennedy, Damien Delaney and Luciano Civelli are not yet ready to make their first team returns.

711, are you feeling alright and have you watched ITFC in the last season or so?

The one thing you will have noticed is the one area Keane exceeds himself is the loan market. Without we would have been relegated last year and in O'Dea and Townsend he has already got two good players this year (Townsend I add is ENGLISH and NEVER played for SUNDERLAND).

Even if the player is Irish and from Sunderland, if he's anything like Colback last year I won't be complaining and under Keane if he works hard in training he will definitly play.

Cheer up 711! We are actually playing well at the moment so why don't you try and enjoy it since it's been a while since ITFC Fans had something to smile about!

COYB's!

Brilliant! Have been to all the games actually and agree we are playing well. I still have a problem with Keane though. He is not good at his job. The clue is in the title - Manager. That means being able to manage people and the team. If he was any good at this, we wouldnt have a squad that had just enough players to fill the bench. 2 players out and we almost have an injury crisis on our hands because he fell out with all the others and had to sell them! I would love it if we go up but you wait till Feb/March when we are on our knees barely able to put a team out.

So that still poses the question of who the full backs will be against Pompey. My bet is jack ainsley at right back and jamie peters at left back

@ITFC711 stop trolling, you're really bad at it. Dont you think its better man management if a manager can get great results with a paper thin squad/acadamy players? How is Keano doing a bad job if "we are playing well"? To answer your initial post, D.Murphy was Irish and from Sunderland and Jack Colback was English from Sunderland both players were seriously important for us last season. So with that in mind who cares where they are from if they do a good job for us.

711 gotta admit we been unlucky with injuries, wickham, delaney, civelli, kennedy. townsend (ban).
And by the sounds of things, he got rid of the players that didn't want to give us all there worth, walters turned out he got to big for his boots & garvan was resenting the fact he wasn;t being played, when now hes gone its proved leadbitter norris hyam are a lot better.
I know who you are anyway 711 ;)

'lil Jack is Coming Back to Portman Rd ??

Please, Please stay away from WBA!

Would be nice to have some right sided player to come straight in and let Jamie fight a big harder for his place - mind he's doing ok.

COYB - and I agree with you all the ITFC1971 is a Bell End !

Having said please no to Luke Moore, I'm not sure . . . . . until his move to the Baggies he was a very, very decent player and his move to the Hawthorns was widely accepted as a very good one for all concerned. Just didn't work out.

Who knows?

Colback is no doubt a possibility, but the midfield is doing well. No doubt we need cover but I assume when a player is let go on loan to a lower division the objective, barring injury and a drop in form, is to give him an opportunity to play regular 1st team football. I am not sure if he would get regular first team football given the current set up, could be wrong tho'.....

Cant see RK upsetting the balance of DN GL LH at the moment as they seem to be gelling nicely ! Dont think Bruce will let Colback come to us as he is lined up for Sunderland ( may be on bench at the moment ) games in the near future !

Colback would be an excellent signing again to cover either Leadbitter or Norris without changing the system or could play on the left also or at the back a versatile utility player for a long season .
As for us being short for full backs it is very unlucky to have Kennedy,O Connor,Civelli,Delaney all injured who could play at left back but would have given D Wright a year contract as we have no cover for right back at all

ITFC 711 isn't way off the mark.

I believe we should try to use English players wherever possible. G Barry had something interesting to say on the matter in the independent.

I'm no radical and am delighted with results thus far, but Ipswich is an English club and there's nowt wrong focusing on bringing English players through. There are more Wickhams out there.
