McLoughlin Move to Get Games

Boss Roy Keane says fourth-choice keeper Ian McLoughlin was sent out on a month's loan to Ryman League Premier Division Lowestoft Town last week in order to play some games. The Republic of Ireland U19 international has made only one appearance for the Blues’ reserves this season and has been nowhere near the first team.

Keane said: “Ian needs some games. We’ve got Arran, we’ve got Murph, young Cody Cropper coming through and Márton, of course.

“We weigh up these options and speak to the player. It’s a good option for him to go and get some games.”

The 19-year-old, who joined Town from Dublin side St Francis in January 2009, made his Lowestoft debut on Saturday’s FA Trophy draw at Chippenham and also played in last night’s 3-2 replay victory. McLoughlin is yet to play for the Blues first team, although he has been on the bench on a number of occasions, but not so far this season.

Meanwhile, Keane says defender Troy Brown very much deserved last week’s call into the Wales U21 squad: “Troy’s done well for us. I wanted to play him the other night in the reserves [at Stevenage] but we want to be careful with him because he’s probably next in line if we got an injury to one of our centre-halves.”

I don't think he's going to make it. Whenever I have seen him warm up before games, he lacks any sort of intensity or drive to stop a goal being scored. When Shane Supple was reserve keeper, he was flying all over the place to stop every shot. Ian just lets them in. This may sound like a minor point as it is only a warm up before a game, but it's a major factor for any good keeper. Every keeper should hate being scored against no matter if it's in a game, in training, in the garden with your kid.

Town22. If you watch alot of players none of them put it in, in a warm up. Not outfield players anyway. Also some players seem to have no drive even during a match, I.e Dimitar Berbatov. But he is one of the top players in the premier league and can pull out a moment of magic in an instant ( or in goalkeeper terms, a world class save)
I understand what you are trying to say, but lets face it, no matter how poorly his warm ups are, if he does well in games, he will continue to push forward with his career either at Ipswich or whereever else it may be.

shoopdelang you make a good point, but i think with goalkeepers you can really tell during the warm-up. Like town22 said, if you watched shane supple during warm-ups he would dive himself at anything. I dont know, maybe its just McLoughlins style of goalkeeping. But we can be thankful that we have a premiership quality keeper in martin fulop, and a good quality championship keeper in Brian Murphy as back up.

Bergholtblue added 11:44 - Nov 4 I have no problem with plyers going out on loan to gain experience/match fitness, but with no disrepect to Lowestoft Town, is the Ryman League good enough to suit Ian Mc's needs?
