McAuley Named in Team of the Week
McAuley Named in Team of the Week
Monday, 8th Nov 2010 15:04

Town defender Gareth McAuley has been named in the Championship Team of the Week for his performance in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Sheffield United. The former skipper, who was making his 100th appearance for the Blues, scored his second goal of the season and put in his usual resolute defensive display.

McAuley was last named in the division’s select team in April, while Carlos Edwards was included after last week’s 2-0 victory over Millwall.

The Northern Irishman, whose contract is up at the end of the season, says he wants to stick around at Town for his 200th appearance: "It was nice to get the win, in my 100th game.

"It's the first time that I have managed to make 100 appearances for a club. It would be great to keep that going and perhaps even double it up."

Team of the Week: Dorus de Vries (Swansea); Cliff Byrne (Scunthorpe), Gareth McAuley (Ipswich), Angelo Miguel Vitor (Leicester), Dean Moxey (Derby); Robert Snodgrass (Leeds), Michael O'Connor (Scunthorpe), Andy King (Leicester), Lewis McGugan (Nottm Forest); Martin Paterson (Burnley), Marvin Emnes (Swansea).

I love McAuley's goal, the way he was given time and space to head then volley the ball. What a guy.

think he was mom saturday, but he has become so consistant people expect it - so its players that are now showing the sort of form they are paid for that get recognised i.e Prisken. Not complaining though, good on Prisken for finally showing at least some of his worth always did feel there was a good player waiting to evolve. as for big Mac my favourite player by a mile!

what a contrast to the player who 1st arrived here! he cut a nervous, pressured figure whilst strained and burdened by the captaincy and a high transfer fee to boot, void of confidence, now though, ever dependable, consistent and looking like hes worth every penny of his price, a very refreshing turn-around, i think we could all be forgiven for thinking we had signed a dud in his early form and wishing his departure, but credit to him, credit to keane (anyone who questions keane's man management, see this story!) Big Mac deserves to be held in very high esteem by all supporters now, he's made us all eat humble pie!!

The last time I saw that kind of goal from a centre back was the great Manuel Thetis I think against West Brom - 2 attempts at an overhead kick.
