Hull's Bullard Linked With Jewell Reunion at Town
Hull's Bullard Linked With Jewell Reunion at Town
Monday, 24th Jan 2011 17:23

Town have been linked with a move for Hull City midfielder Jimmy Bullard. The 32-year-old was in Blues boss Paul Jewell’s Wigan squad which beat Town to promotion to the Premier League in 2004/05.

The one-time England call-up has been tipped to leave the KC Stadium for some while after an injury-plagued stay in East Yorkshire in which he has made only 19 starts and five sub appearances, scoring six goals.

Bullard started his career in non-league with Gravesend and Northfleet (now Ebbsfleet) before moving on to West Ham and then Peterborough with whom he made his league debut. During his time at London Road Bullard was linked with a move to George Burley's Town on a number of occasions.

Jewell eventually prised the east Londoner away from the Posh with a £275,000 offer when he took him to Wigan in January 2003.

Having helped the Latics into the Premier League and established them in the top flight, Bullard subsequently moved on to Fulham for £2.5 million in the summer of 2006 and then Hull for £5 million in January 2009, signing a lucrative deal until 2013.

In the summer Bullard was close to joining Celtic on loan but an agreement couldn’t be reached regarding his wages. Subsequently, he was left out of the Tigers' pre-season games and wasn’t given a squad number as Hull sought to prevent him from suffering an injury which might scupper a potential move.

Hull would probably allow Bullard to leave on a free transfer in order to reduce their wage bill, but as with the proposed Celtic switch, the player's earnings are likely to be the biggest issue if Jewell wants to add the midfielder to his Town squad.

Great player.
Injury prone and expensive though.

If he's going to leave Hull on a free, at 32 years old.. surely he can't fuss too much over wages in fear of being released without a club to play for?

I reckon it'd be a good bit of business if we signed him on an 18 month deal, handy player to have.

rather save the wage money n keep McAuley n Norris here. Bullard is always injured, if we do get him I wouldn't even consider it unless its a pay as you play contract.

Agree with the first two posts - MaySixth sums it up nicely. Regardless of his undoubted quality, can we afford such an injury prone player? Must be on £40K a week. Even Celtic couldn't afford him!

wondered how long it would be before Bullard's name cropped up. Surpirse , surprise it finally has !

this player is probably past his sell by date now, would cost the earth to have on the payroll and would be more likely to be out inkured more than he would play. Id say steer well clear!!

If we are going to bring old, crocked players on big wages then it should be Keiron.

Don't need an expensive sick note. No good having a quality player who never plays. Might as well get Michael Owen as well.

No way will he come here when he's getting 40K a week at Hull so need to worry.

Looking at all the vidio's on the forum it seems like he has lost his marbles as well as his body strength. Pay as you play only sensible option.

But Blue 92 his contract is til 2013 so doubt he would leave before then and take a pay cut. If Hull want to release him they would need to pay his wages so he could sit tight and keep getting paid.

That said, he seems a decent sort of guy, he's got plenty of cash and maybe he would rather play some football over the next (last) few seasons of his career and have some more fond memories to look back on. Cant see him getting them at Hull. Guess it would be a straight replacement for Norris if he does come.

Wouldn't be too disappointed if this doesn't come off due to his age, wages etc. Probably just lazy journalists linking him back with Jewel.

Mate of mine's a Hull season ticket holder and says that he's too crocked. Not the player he was, and not going to give you many games. Even at this level.

When was the last time we had a player whos a real fan favourite and with a bit of character? Wilnis? Naylor? Reuser? Hreidarsson? Think wages and injuries are a massive risk but think hed lift the dressing room and still has alot of quality at 32 yes old, you don't become a bad player over night Mmmm we'll see

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

maybe we could get david weatherall aswell as a replacement for Macca????

Let's just wait and see what happens instead of getting excited about nothing...lol
This is what wineds us Town fans up with all the speculation we create ourselves..
If we trust the manager then lets leave it to him and i'm sure he'll bring in some quality, he might even sell some players but he does come across as if he knows what he's talking about and that he has the clubs best interests at heart so lets let him get on with it..

I know whats coming now "This is a forum and were aloud our views and comments" I know this but, lets show some faith in the New Number 1

Is this one of the 2 bids? One of the "sources" on a Hull fansite states it's a loan move! Try before you buy might be a sound move.

At least he should be fit, after all he's hardly been worn out playing football !
