Dyer: Perfect Time to Return to Town
Dyer: Perfect Time to Return to Town

New Town loan signing Kieron Dyer says now is the perfect time to return to the Blues on loan. The 32-year-old has joined Town for a month and is set to make his debut at Leeds tomorrow.

Dyer said: "They say 'never go back' but I've been getting itchy feet about coming here the last few years and when the opportunity came up to come back on loan, it was the perfect time.

"I had Craig Bellamy on the phone trying to get me to go to Cardiff but Ipswich is a special club for me and it was no contest.

"I'm here for a month to play football, help the team move up the table and hopefully help the younger players as well.

"I've not played much football over the last few weeks, so I'm not 100 per cent match fit yet but general fitness has never really been a problem for me and I'm looking forward to my time here.

"Leeds are doing well at the moment and I'm sure it will be fantastic atmosphere there. It will be a big crowd, a big game and I can't wait to get going."

If you can score with a broken leg [ and I do remember it ], match fitness shouldn't be a problem. Show WU what they're missing. A hatrick would be good for starters and we'll think of something else after that!!!!!!

Mr Jewell is going for players with character.
Mr Keane's use of Parent/child behaviour with his squad meant that some of them were infantilised and are going to take time to pick up responsibility.
Bringing in Kieren Dyer also gives them all a chance to see what different options look like.

While I'm as enthusiastic about as the next fan and am looking forward to welcoming KD back to PR on Tuesday, I feel a dose of realism is required. By his own admission he is not match fit and, while he says his general fitness is not a problem his record at West Ham suggests otherwise.

Realistically we have no chance of getting him long term so even if the loan period is successful we can only look on it as a cameo signing.

Furthermore his 'never go back' line is so true. You only have to look at the returns of Richard Wright, Darren Ambrose, Tommy Miller, Shefki Kuqi, James Scowcroft Pablo Counago et al to realise that it doesn't always work. In fact other than Ray Crawford and of course John Wark I can't recall any other successful returns.

So please pardon the negativity; let's enjoy the ride and hope it works out for all concerned.
