![]() Saturday, 30th Jul 2011 20:12 Town's U18 side continued their pre-season preparations with a 2-1 win at Walsham-le-Willows on Saturday afternoon. Goals from Jack Simmons and Tom Winter put the young Blues ahead before the hosts pulled one back through James Tatham late on. Russell Osman’s side started brightly but Winter forced Walsham keeper Duncan McNally into a good save down low early on, tipping the ball round the post for a corner. McNally then denied Simmons before the Welsh U17 international gave Town the lead on 23. After beating McNally to the ball in the area, he lifted it over the keeper and it bounced into the net with Carel Tiofack in close attention. Good work from raiding left-back David October gave Tiofack a chance with a volley, which was put over before Nicolay Schrøder was substituted as a precaution on the half-hour mark. The Norwegian centre-half is still making his comeback from nine months out with tendinitis. Town again came close to scoring soon after, Tiofack beating McNally to the bouncing ball but Matt Morton got back to clear the ball off the line for a corner. Morton again denied Town right on the stroke of half-time when Gunnar Thorsteinsson's corner reached the back post and Jide Maduako hooked the ball towards goal, but Morton cleared off the line. The hosts started the second half well and Ollie Hughes blazed over from a corner before Conor O'Donnell made a fine save to tip Jack Brame's effort over. A flurry of substitutions followed for both sides which disrupted the flow of the game, but Winter doubled Town's advantage on 77 with a fine strike from 25 yards which nestled in the top corner. With four minutes remaining, Walsham did pull a deserved goal back when a cross from the right was met by James Tatham to give the home side hope. But Town held out for the win, with Simmons impressing throughout and Jones catching the eye in midfield. U18s: O'Donnell (Ryan 79), Bennett (Thompson 61), October (Leddy 64), Acott (Meikle 75), Maduako (Hutchings 84), Schrøder (Jones 30), Winter (Berkane 84), Scotcher, Simmons (Eynon 72), Tiofack, Thorsteinsson.
