Andrews Deal Likely This Morning
Andrews Deal Likely This Morning
Thursday, 11th Aug 2011 09:41

Town boss Paul Jewell says he hopes to complete the signing of Blackburn midfielder Keith Andrews on a six-month loan this morning. The Blues are waiting to receive paperwork from the Premier League club before the deal can be announced.

Jewell said: “We’re just waiting for paperwork from Blackburn to come through. It’s been reported that it was done two days ago, it wasn’t, but hopefully it’s all done now. Hopefully, it will be done before 9.45 this morning so he can train with us.”

The Town boss says he’s yet to hear whether the offer made for a defender — probably Liverpool’s Daniel Ayala — has been accepted: “We’ve got an offer in for a centre-half, that’s been in since Monday evening but like every player we go for there seem to be other clubs in for him.

“We’re waiting to see whether the other club have accepted our offer and if we’ve got permission to speak to the player.”

Jewell played down chief executive Simon Clegg’s comments regarding an offer being received for a player - believed to be a fringe member of the squad rather than a regular - with any interest from another club very much at a tentative stage: “If there’s a bid that we accept then people will know about it. There are always phone calls between managers and chief execs. We could go on all day about.

“I don’t think we’ve got anything in writing. I think there are always conversations going to and fro and questions thrown at chief execs but I’m the type of person that unless there’s something to tell you that’s definite or is going to happen or has happened, there’s no point in me talking.”

That'll be all the other clubs without scouts outside the UK then!

We'd better not sell any first teamers and we'd better get Bullard! We've already lost Wickham remember!

Yes can only be good. Heard that we will sell Carson to spurs for £4million raising to £7million With add ons and with a 25% sell on clause were also going to get Khumalo as well on a permanent

Nice one - a holding midfielder who can cover at right-back, to go with our left-back who can cover as a holding midfielder

Just need to sign Ayala before the weekend now...and invite Jimmy Bullard along to Saturday's game as a guest of the Town directors :^D

Andrews is in the bracket of "poor premiership / decent championship" player so it'll be interesting to see how he does. Blackburn will surely go down this year so a longer deal could be done if he, hopefully, impresses.

Nice...

Ainsley won't play against Hull, too inexperienced. Andrews in midfield holding role, Kennedy at CB!

clearly isn't leadbitter, says a 'FRINGE' player, Leadbitter won't go he's just been made our captain. Very happy with this signing, and ayala would be a great signing for us, fingers crossed it's him or someone similar and it goes through soon. BRING BACK BULLARD!!

@Nitroblue70, As a new ipswich season ticket holder and a liverpool fan Ayala would be a great signing. Would hold his own in the premiership.

great news and great signing - harsh on kennedy but competition for places will push players to perform. last season was too easy for some players as no one waiting in the wings to take their place.

I don't expect to see him play very much, as presumably PJ won't be playing a defensive midfield player at home?

Ayala should be the final piece of the puzzle. He's been with Liverpool since 2009 and keen to impress.Just the type we need.

Seems to be quite "yellowhappy" though.29 games last season at Hull and Derby and 10 cards.

Jas0999 - you are actually starting to annoy me now. Playing a defensive midfielder doesn't actually mean we would be more defensive - it actually frees up the other midfielders and even gives licence for the wingers and even full backs to be much more adventurous. Stop moaning for moanings sake.

The headline is "Andrews Deal Likely This Morning". I am posting this at 10 to 3 in the afternoon. I apologise if this sounds like moaning, but what is happening? Our hopes seem to continually be raised and then dashed.

I am also starting to get rather concerned with the lack of success that we appear to be having in signing a centre back. Please PJ. Get a CB in. Even if costs some money. All will be worth it when, at the end of the season, we get promoted.

I wonder if PJ is now starting to regret letting the likes of GM, Eastman and co leaving!!
