Jewell Continuing Player Hunt
Jewell Continuing Player Hunt

Boss Paul Jewell has confirmed that he watched Huddersfield Town for the second time in a week when they drew 1-1 away against the MK Dons last Saturday. A few days beforehand the Town boss had seen the Terriers defeat Sheffield United 3-0 at Bramall Lane.

Jewell, who was joined on the trip to Buckinghamshire by coach Sean McCarthy, was impressed with the hospitality at stadium mk: “Nice place and a really nice chairman that Peter Winkelman, he looked after us. I go to games, that’s what I enjoy doing.

“I’m not going to hide away from the fact that it’s no good me going to watch Manchester United-Chelsea scouting for players.”

Jewell, tongue firmly in cheek, again insisted that his target was former Blue and fellow Dedham resident Alan Lee, however, 20-year-old Terriers’ right-back Jack Hunt is far more likely to have been the player being eyed by Jewell.

Rothwell-born Hunt came through the youth system at Huddersfield, spending time on loan at Grays Athletic in the Blue Square Bet Premier in 2009/10 and then with League Two champions Chesterfield at the start of last season.

In the second half of the 2010/11 campaign the 5ft 9in tall full-back or midfielder made his first start for Huddersfield in an FA Cup tie at Arsenal, subsequently establishing himself as a regular at the Galpharm Stadium. Contracted until 2013, Hunt has continued to impress this season.

The Blues boss dismissed yesterday’s newspaper reports claiming Town have renewed their interest in Manchester City’s Israeli international winger Gai Assulin and says he’s never heard of Austrian defender Andreas Dober, who was also linked earlier in the week: “I don’t know who he is!”

Jewell also said he was unaware of reports that Millwall winger James Henry, a Town target in the summer, is embroiled in a contract row with his current club: “I’m going to have to start buying these newspapers because I don’t know about anything you’re telling me here!

“We made an offer for James Henry at the start of the season and it was rejected and that’s the last time I spoke with Kenny Jackett. We’ve had no contact with Millwall and I didn’t realise about his dispute.”

Victorywillhappen - Dean Lewington? Apart from not playing in the same position as Collins.....

It's clear we are watching Huddersfield either for Hunt or maybe Smithies? Long term No.1?

Paul Jewell has a fabulous sense of humour and I enjoy it very much. Let us hope though that the laugh is not on us after Middlesborough on Saturday! A draw would be a good result and we should not dare for anymore.

A team with a bit of confidence about them should be able to give a reasonable account of themselves on Saturday.
Pessimistic; - Agree about the draw, but still hope for the win.

Going for 0-1 with Andrews to score. Got to keep Emnes quiet though!

It is nice to see PJ looking to strenghten the squad with up coming talent however I would like to see him taking a closer look at our own youth set up and maybe just maybe he might unearth a gem there. Looking elsewhwere for players when he has signed the numbers we have this season will only demoralise the players we have and subsiquently have a knock on effect on the youth and fringe players currently at the club...Time to develop what we have.....

PJ would make an excellent comedian - but a football manager? Time will tell, but Monday apart, it's been a very poor 8 months. Please - no more loans. 4 is enough - stick with what we have until January - where we should BUY players - preferably one's who will be here in two to three years i.e. no more injury prone has beens (Bowyer, Ingermarsson)
