Edwards Arrested and Charged
Tuesday, 27th Sep 2011 08:08

Town right-back Carlos Edwards has been charged with driving whilst disqualified and without insurance having been arrested close to his home in Kesgrave yesterday morning. The Trinidad and Tobago international, who could potentially face a jail sentence, was released on police bail and is still expected to take his place in the Blues’ back four for this evening’s game at West Ham.

A statement from Suffolk police reads: “Carlos Edwards, aged 32 and of Century Drive in Kesgrave, has been charged with driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance after officers stopped a BMW on Dodson Vale in Kesgrave earlier this morning, Monday September 26th.

“The BMW has been seized by police. Edwards is due before Ipswich Magistrates on October 10th 2011.”

Town also released a statement: “We can confirm that Carlos Edwards was arrested for driving while disqualified on Monday, September 26th.

“We understand there are significant mitigating circumstances but this is now a matter for the police and we will be making no further comment until due process is complete.”

Earlier this summer, Edwards was banned from driving for a year and fined £7,650 having admitted a number of driving offences at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court.

The 32-year-old Trinidadian had pleaded guilty to two counts of driving without a valid licence, two counts of driving with no insurance and two counts of driving without an MOT.

He had also admitted a further count of a failure to give information about the identity of a driver.

Meanwhile, Anton Corneal, Trinidad and Tobago’s assistant coach, says Edwards might be named captain of his international side for their upcoming World Cup qualifier against Bermuda with regular skipper Kenwyne Jones injured: “We cannot say who is close to being the captain as yet but we have ample time to analyse our top quality players, for example Carlos Edwards, who is experienced and a talisman as well. He is one who has the ability to run out as our captain.”
