Town Could Move for Trialist Bjarnason
Town Could Move for Trialist Bjarnason

Icelandic international midfielder Teddy Bjarnason impressed Blues boss Paul Jewell during his two-day trial earlier in the week and Town could look to sign the 24-year-old from IFK Gothenburg when the transfer window opens in January. Also on trial this week has been 6ft 7in tall Swedish youngster Isak Nylén.

Jewell says Bjarnason did well having featured in the 3-2 reserves victory over West Ham: “He did OK, he did fine and played in the practice match.

"He’s at IFK Gothenburg at the moment, we’re monitoring that situation and I spoke to his agent [on Wednesday]. His contract’s up next year, so we’re going to see what the deal is.

“There’s a possibility [that a deal could be done]. They’re looking at a figure and I’ve told them we won’t pay that, so we’ll just monitor that situation.

“Their season has finished, it’s just about to start again, in February I think, that’s where we are and we can’t sign him until January anyway.”

The Town manager felt the reserves match was a useful exercise: “I thought it was a great game, high tempo, it was a physical game.

"Both teams’ attitude towards the game was terrific and that’s the benefit of organising games at our leisure. It suits us, playing on decent pitches against decent teams.”

Bjarnson played in the centre of the midfield against West Ham, a role he has played more regularly this season with IFK than in previous years, but also operates on either flank or up front.

Striker Nylén, who currently plays for IF Brommapojkarna in his homeland, was at Playford Road with the academy and was quickly spotted by the Town boss: “He looks like Peter Crouch! He’s a 16-year-old, he was training with the kids and I took him [to join us] and he really is like Peter Crouch. He’s not as good, so don’t get excited about him!

“We’re just having a look at him. He played for the U17s against Leicester earlier in the week and I think he scored a goal. When someone’s so big and so different he’s worth a look.”

Striker Nylén, who currently plays for IF Brommapojkarna and is still only 16, has been on trial with the academy.
“We're just having a look at him. He played for the Under-17s against Leicester earlier in the week and I think he scored a goal.
Bit worrying when thinks he scored, did he or did'nt he,bit crucial I would have thought.
