Portsmouth Turn Down Three Pearce Bids
Portsmouth Turn Down Three Pearce Bids
Tuesday, 31st Jan 2012 16:22

Portsmouth have turned down deadline day offers for Jason Pearce from three different Championship clubs, including from Town, according to reports on the south coast. The Blues are trying to land the central defender and team-mates Joel Ward and Stephen Henderson before the window closes at 11pm this evening.

Town are continuing to talk to Pompey, with their parent company Convers Sports Initiatives’ administrator also involved in the discussions. Negotiations - and bidding - is set to run right to this evening’s deadline with all three Blues targets understood to have been at training at Portsmouth’s training ground this morning.

The Hampshire club need to sell players due their ongoing financial problems which saw them issued with a winding-up order last week with a court hearing set for February 20th, their bank accounts frozen and players not paid.

Australian winger Ryan Williams looks set to join Fulham for £500,000 but they would appear to need to raise significantly more than that with HMRC owed £1.6 million in unpaid PAYE.

Even if all aspects of the deal (or deals) aren’t sorted before tonight’s deadline, Town have previously signed players such as Alan Quinn and Jon Stead on loan initially with the details of a permanent switch completed in the days afterwards.

As if we weren't struggling enough negociating with Pompy, we now have competition as well...

If we pull this off I will be very very very surprised

Can't see why this has been so dragged out if the clubs have been talking for days how are we still getting bids rejected if there valuation is too high then surely town would have walked away and gone elsewhere. Really worried about the restof the season if we are left with the current squad....less cb's than what we started jan with! Really hope they pull this off

What part of NO can't Ipswich understand, Pompey cannot be that hard up can they, but the clear message is they ain't coming here and we have no time for any other targets, not that I think we've been trying as I don't think there is any money

never looked like happening, put too much effort and time into getting him in, should've moved on to plan B ages ago.

But tbh! It's surprised me how long we've actually been persistently going back.. That's so unlike Ipswich to remember.. I think we will get them.. We are just trying to get the best price.. I can see it happening still

Damn Pompey sure is stubborn and playing their cards well. We were too desperate and unless Cleggy throws in an super offer that cannot be resisted, otherwise the bid is as good as dead

RIP PJ & Cleggy!

For goodness sake lads... It is all gamesmanship. We are probably the only bidders but they are just trying to get the most money out of us. Simple haggle technique is used as they know we are desperate. We all knew it would finish this way.

IF THEY NEED TO SELL PLAYERS WHY AREN'T THEY SELLING THEM! IT'S AN ABSOLUTE OUTRAGE THAT ONLY A FOOTBALL CLUB COULD GET AWAY WITH..!

These deals should have been concluded a week ago!! I hope that PJ has a back-up plan, or we are royally screwed. What is going on at our beloved club when two bit part Scottish players choose Huddersfield over us??

I'm ashamed to say that after the Leeds debacle I vowed not to watch us again unless we signed two new centre halves! We've got a midfielder mind, but for goodness sake we needed in a defender or two before today. i.e. we need them ASAP, including tonight.

Offer them a ludicrous amount for these players, and then let the deal drag on past the deadline. They then go into administration and have points deducted, which will take them below us in the table. Once they go bust, we pick up the players for free.......simples!
Slightly gratifying that Norris's contract is not worth the paper it is written on now - so much for a 3 year deal. Hope the money was good while it lasted.

Me bitter??

Growing increasingly concerned that there is no plan b casanovacrow. Have staunchly defended PJ and club up till now but I am wondering what long-term strategy we actually have.
We have a lot of players recently without replacement. I fear we are just going to get the left-overs this transfer window with a bit of spin from the club about how happy they are with the situation.
Becoming increasingly disillusioned.

Surely the signs are good if they're still talking. Just bid more. Stop fecking about and offer £3.5M for all three

Surely they shouldn't be in a position to turn sensible bids down. Ahh I see where I went wrong with that statement with sensible buds. Pull you're finger out of your arse me or Clegg and get a proper bid in that they can't refuse and get things wrapped up.

Don't forget we can still get more players in on loan AFTER 11pm tonight.

oh come on...this deal was never going to happen! ever!! they dont want to come here, Pompey dont really want to sell either. lets move on and look at the loan market next week. Because we can attract a few over the hill has been ex prem fringe players looking for a club to leech off for a few months.......ffs!!!!
