Cropper on Bench at Palace
Cropper on Bench at Palace
Friday, 13th Apr 2012 22:23

TWTD understands that US U20 keeper Cody Cropper will be on the Town bench at Crystal Palace tomorrow afternoon.

Second-choice Richard Wright has stayed behind in Suffolk having been ruled out with a minor niggle with Arran Lee-Barrett again set to start.

Cropper has previously been on the Blues first team bench twice, for the Carling Cup tie against Northampton in August and at Burnley in November.

The 19-year-old only recently returned to action after undergoing a knee operation before Christmas.

You can't just chuck a young keeper into a league match, could ruin his confidence, especially when he's been out injured for a long spell. Pre-season give him a few games, Richard Wright should play on last game as a send off....love old big ears!!!

algarve, well said!
But this is exactly why we can't rely on him, he's always picking up injuries and he doesn't even play. Obviously can't take the training, which is such a shame as early in his career, when he was with us and then went to Arsenal I thought he was a dead cert to take over from David Seaman for club and country.
Let's just hope Cody follows on from the American keepers who have come and played over here these last few years like Friedel, Howard and co.

Although I am all for youngsters playing - and although I don't think ALB is good enough - I have to say ALB has been harshly treated. he is a good shot stopper, plus he is our player. The reliance on loans in this position has been disappointing and a sign of very poor management - particularly from a so called experience manager, who should recognise the importance of building from the back.

However, I agree that in such a crucial position, you can't just throw a young kid in. Of course we should have a better No. 1 - but as we have PJ at the helm this should not be a surprise. That said, a place on the bench above yet another injury prone has been who will be leaving in the Summer is absolutely correct.

Well said, but why oh why keep harping on about PJ?

WE all know your views on PJ so why keep repeating them over and over. In the midst of your moaning there are snippets of good sense.

ALB HASN'T been harshly treated; he has had several chances to establish himself as the Town number 1 this season and has never been quite good enough to do so.
Although loan goal-keepers is a risk with the inclusion of the 24 hour recall clause, lucks been against us with our 2 loanees having been recalled. I think PJ knows this now and will look to bring in a good solid number 1 next season on a permanent basis.

Richard Wright is injured more serious than first thought. He is under going an operation on his knee. So I think we have seen Richards last game for Ipswich.Would have liked to have seen him for the last time playing in Towns Kit in the last game of the season. But I dont think we will see him play again? Good luck with your future wherever it may be. Time for Cody Cropper to take his place in the Ipswich first Team.A good Keepwer. COYB
