Town Act Against Lazio

Town have enlisted the help of FIFA and the FA after Lazio once again failed to agree a date for one of the two friendlies they owe as part of the deal which took keeper Matteo Sereni to the Rome club two years ago. The Blues have made three attempts to organise a game with the Italians but to no success.

Chief executive Derek Bowden told TWTD: "We've written to the FA to seek compensation from Lazio, a figure relative to what we would earn from a pre-season friendly, on the basis that we've tried to organise a match with them on three occasions and each time they have miraculously avoided playing it.

"It's a contractual agreement that they play two free friendlies as compensation for the Matteo Sereni transfer and they are avoiding it. We've done all we can do, which is via the FA instruct FIFA that we're unhappy and ask FIFA to talk to the Italian Football Federation and try and resolve it for us."

Sereni joined Lazio in July 2003 with Town receiving only two friendlies and a 50% sell-on clause in return. The club were keen to play one of the games last summer and then in January on an international weekend.

This summer a game with Lazio had been pencilled in for July 30th but again the Italians proved impossible to pin down.
