[Blog] From Rush Green Bowl to Millfield
Written by Karl_Fuller on Thursday, 1st Jul 2010 20:55

An unusual step in a different direction, I would like to bring your attention to a book that I have written about my local football club. Why am I bothering with TWTD if it is not a book about Ipswich Town I hear you ask. Well if you love the Town but you also follow your local club (and I know many who do from my time of writing for the Green Un, travelling around Suffolk-based Ridgeons League clubs and of course meeting many Ipswich fans at Wembley two years ago in support of Lowestoft Town), then please read on.

I have been an Ipswich fan since 1978 and my first match coincided with Arnold Muhren's debut in a 3-0 home defeat to Liverpool. I have attended nigh on 600 Ipswich matches home and away and once went 12 seasons without missing a single home game.

I never thought that I would have time for anything else other than Ipswich Town. I served on the Supporters Club Media Committee for a while and did a number of player interviews for TWTD for a time.

But I got older and my commitments changed (if you are a teenager reading this and think you will go through life without anything getting in the way of your beloved Town, believe me, you wont!), and I then discovered my local non-league club in FC Clacton (was Clacton Town at the time).

Ever since, I have split my football time between Ipswich and Clacton and whilst you can never really be allowed to support two clubs within the pro game, you can support two I believe if one is a professional club and the other is non-league.

There must be lots of you reading this that are Town fans but take an interest in your local club too - maybe Ipswich Wanderers, Whitton United, Hadleigh United or even Norwich United (maybe not).

I now look as Ipswich as my football wife and Clacton my football mistress. One I have been with for years and has left me feeling a bit haggered at times but I still love and will always be there for (and even having her name engraved on my body), whilst the other is exciting, offers a great alternative and satisfies me win lose or draw.

The book of course is about FC Clacton, but a year ago, I managed to get ITFC to send a team to FC Clacton for a testimonial match for one of the Clacton players. In the first chapter of the book, I have talked about falling in love with Ipswich and Clacton and having two teams on the go. The book also contains photos from the aforementioned game, including the cover.

But it really is a diary of FC Clacton's successful 2009/10 season that earned them promotion and saw them win the First Division Knockout Cup.

I do not expect many of you to still be reading at this point, but I just wanted to raise the awareness of the book for those of you that enjoy the non-league game too.

It is published by Blackline Press who also published both The Real Tractor Boys and The Real Tractor Boys - Playing Away.

If anyone really is interested in further details, they can be found either here or alternatively, here.

Thank you for your time in reading this.
