[Blog] A Change of Recruiting Policy?
Written by Hailbeats on Wednesday, 14th Jul 2010 18:13

As I came through my local station today, I saw a poster on the notice board inviting people to join the local rugby club.

Now first of all you need to know that I am not a fan of rugby as I can’t see the point of kicking and throwing an irregular shaped object which has a totally unpredictable bounce making it a game of chance rather than of skill. It’s a bit like playing a football game refereed by Andy D’Urso I suppose. But, nevertheless, inviting people to take part in sport surely must be a good thing.

Well, that was what I thought until I read the text properly. What it actually says is, “Would like to play rugby without the hassle of training? Enjoy a pint or two? Then join us”.

So, rather then actually inviting people to get fit, hone their sporting skills and learn about teamwork and tactics, the rugby club is suggesting you can be sporty without effort whilst getting drunk.

I’m sure the handful of other countries in the world that play with the mis-shaped ball will be quaking in their boots anticipating the English talent that is inevitably going to be produced by this type of recruiting policy. Unfit, probably overweight, hardened drinkers will really scare them.

But then again, seeing that Roy Keane is having difficulty recruiting new players, maybe he should change his policy rather like the rugby club in question.

Don’t tell prospective players to expect hard work, the odd ear-bashing and the frightening Keane stare which freezes you out for the rest of the season. No, he should advertise life at ITFC as a doddle, little training, no need to run much, have a good laugh with your fellow journeymen at a decent salary, nice country pubs for the odd binge and an undemanding public who will put up with 15th place. Just watch the new recruits queue up!

You will find the rugby club probably need players for their 4th team/5th team or something. Rugby clubs usually have a lot of teams that compete in different leagues so that players of various abilities can still play, usually the lower end teams are just for people who enjoy the sport and want to play for fun then after the game get pissed and eat food. Trust me the 1st XV and the 2nd XV will train and would take the sport seriously.

I'm not a fan of a totaletarian regime. However, I do think footballers get it easy enough as it is. And for the money Ipswich can afford to play on wages, I feel that doing what your told to instead of what you want to do is a small price to pay.

Comparing a 4th/5th team recruitment drive for a local rugby club and Roy's recruitment policies is like comparing Cheryl Cole and Castyer Semeya.

"I am not a fan of rugby as I can’t see the point of kicking and throwing an irregular shaped object which has a totally unpredictable bounce making it a game of chance rather than of skill"

So Jonny wilkinson has spent the past 20 years wasting his time, as its pointless practising as it is all about chance. You Sir, are an A1 Chump.

Sorry, can't really see the point of this blog. Should have been nothing more than a thread topic on the forum, then it could have been torn apart and ridiculed for the total tosh it is.

I'd love to play for Ipswich. And the way things are going I could be called up for the bench if not the first team just for being left-footed and applying for the role as a midfielder.

One problam I'm 100% English. With now conections to Sunderland or Ireland :(
