Obviously I feel very sorry for the victim (RIP) 00:05 - Feb 7 with 6407 viewsThe_Romford_Blue

BUT..

I also feel a bit sad for the murderer (which seems such a strange thing to type). He clearly should've been in a unit of some sort and has stated how sorry he is and all that. It's a shame an attack of schizophrenia has meant he's gone on a rampage uncontrollably (and probably without even knowing what he was doing) which has left somebody dead. Of course this is assuming that the conclusion of an attack of schizophrenia is true - not sure how specialists know either way though they are apparently are good at making judgements on fake and real cases.

Thing is though Ryorry Jerra really does have a problem with me !

But to call for another forum member to be banned just becuase i have a different view on life really is sad.

Whats next i voted for Brexit is that another ban?

Still i went out on my bike this morn did 34 miles through woodland and down lanes, across rivers and brooks it was glorious, some on here could do with going out once in a while it might do them good.

I wont say anymore about Jerras rudness towards me .

Im out .

I do think it's fine to have different views and to be respectful of people who don't think the same. It's how I try to treat the forum, and life.

The bike ride does sound nice. Taking notice of the natural world is good for the mind. I want to get more into long walks - I used to run but have put on a bit of timber! I am thinking of the three peeks challenge later in the year but I'll need to up my fitness!

"Three peeks"? Guess I'd better not ask through whose letterboxes!

100% agree with all of the rest of that. Yes, connecting with the environment (and that can be in cities too) is really important for human health. Owning pets also - anyone see 'The Secret Life of Dogs' last night on ITV1? People who own them have better all round health, including fewer colds and hayfever apparently! not to mention of course their capacity as cuddle-meisters, stress-busters, and their roles as Assistance Dogs (the wee girl on the show who couldn't walk except when holding on to her Great Dane, and his willingness to slow right down to her pace at all times, were wonderful to behold).

Haha - I could claim auto-correct or do an edit but that's funny enough to leave alone! If I look through letterboxes I might get struck by a Peeky Blinder!

I've always loved the principles of the Five Ways to Wellbeing - Connect; Be Active; Take Notice; Keep Learning and Give - it's the 5-a-day for the mind.

I haven't seen the programme but I'll try to take a look - I'd love a dog but our work pattern makes it hard so we have cats and tortoises. We have had rabbits, guinea pigs, rats and all sorts in the past and there is something very therapeutic about connecting with animals.

Heh, "Peeky Blinder" is a +1 on its own!

Interesting those 5 ways, esp Take Notice, which may go under the radar of some (sorry!). I think Keep Learning's also extremely important, and highly recommend the OU to everyone. There's also an org called FutureLearn - who basically, compile an enormously wide range of online courses (many free) & programmes, from a variety of sources including the OU and loads of other Unis, for people to browse and access if they wish.

PS You're right re a dog - not fair to leave one on its tod all day.

Yeah, I did see it. I have a few friends who work for the Trust and they were really worried about how it would portray the work they do. There are such good people who work so hard but without the correct resources and management, it's just firefighting.

Some of the stories are heartbreaking. Mental illness is only likely to be a bigger problem in the future, with less funding. That said, there is pressure on all health services and deciding where to put the money that is available must be a nightmare.

I thought the clear view from the programme is that the staff are doing what they can but there aren't enough of them and not enough mental health beds.

On funding, not pissing billions up the fall in top-down restructures of the NHS would probably help.

No I'm sorry, but I simply can't agree with this. I just wonder how I would feel if the victim was someone I knew or cared about. I doubt I would feel sad for the attacker.

But the victim fortunately isn't someone you know or care about.

So you can be rational. He had no idea what he was doing. In his head he was likely being told to kill aliens and save the world or something equally bizarre. And he can't help that

So you're defining yourselves as not ordained into the church; and not knowing much about anything, basically.

Fair enough.

It's a sensitive issue jas and I can understand why you feel that way. I've said before on the thread that my sympathies are definitely with the person who died, those injured and others who witnessed a trauma that may cause them future issues.

I suppose I would also feel sad if my brother, friend etc. had been so mentally unwell that they had done this. He has lost his liberty for life at 19 - this is deserved for the crime but not for the illness. His family have lost him and have to live the the understandable hatred that will be directed towards them.

It's complex and sad all round - better understanding of mental illness and increased resources might have prevented tragedy and anguish for many people.

No, you are not convincing me! Sorry. Feel you probably need to respect other folks opinions on this. I simply can't feel sad for the attacker.

Edit: however, I do understand the sensitive nature of the case/ situation. It's a matter of personal opinion. Not an easy one I do agree.

I do respect your opinion.

Can see the argument from both sides.

Unlike others on your side of the argument though, you've respected my opinion so fair play
