Can someone link to the post where Newcyblue was describing his weather (yesterday), which I can't find. He described his ship rolling (badly) and I can't remember the word he used - and it's driving me mad as I've been trying to tell Mr PW. Please help!
Sorry if I'm being boring

Blimey! by PhilTWTD7 Oct 2017 22:36 Take a couple of hours away from the site and there appears to have been a riot. Don't really anyone can moan at me for that banning. Really don't see why every weekend needs to degenerate into abuse, that's about three weekends on the trot.
We were so ahead of the curve with this Orphelia hurricane business....a twtd exclusive !

Thank you, Bankster!
The conversation cropped up when we saw on the news how badly Johannesburg had been hit.

Synchronous rolling. Well done you. Gold star.
The wave period is basically equal to, or a Multiple of the roll period of the vessel.
Hence the rolling increases each time. A dangerous situation to be in. An alteration of course to take the waves from a different angle is the best option.
And I got the Hurricane part right, the direction was wrong. Just goes to show how unpredictable these things can be.
It is a mess in Durban portwoman. We were supposed to be heading there but it looks like the port will be closed for a fair while now. So we are going back to Port Elizabeth to fully discharge the Durban cargo, which is all we have left on board.
From the US hurricane monitoring site..... "KEY MESSAGES:
1. Ophelia is expected to transition to a hurricane-force post- tropical cyclone by Monday when it moves near Ireland and the United Kingdom. While post-tropical Ophelia will likely bring some direct impacts from wind and heavy rain to portions of these areas, as well as dangerous marine conditions, given the forecast uncertainty at these time ranges it is too soon to determine the exact magnitude, timing and location of the impacts. Residents in Ireland and the United Kingdom should monitor the progress of Ophelia for the next several days. For more information on local impacts, residents of Ireland should refer to products issued by Met Eireann and residents in the United Kingdom should refer to products issued by the Met Office."

Good morning Newcy. (Sorry, your post was past my bedtime.) We actually saw the MSC vessel on the news. Coming from someone who can feel queasy crossing from Dover to Calais, I wish you safe passage on the way to and from Port Elizabeth!
COYB!
Sounds like synchronous rolling is to be avoided at all costs.

It's odd, isn't it, this sea-sickness business? I once felt sea-sick while the ferry was waiting to leave Dover harbour. On the other hand we got caught in a Force 11 between Oslo and Harwich and I ate a hearty breakfast and felt fine.
As with aircrew, when the ship's crew look worried that's the time to start being concerned.

Yes, that's happened to me before.
Well, you know what they say about seasickness; at first you feel ill and think you're going to be sick, then it gets worse and you are sick, then you start to feel so bad that you're afraid you're going to die, then you feel even worse and you're afraid you're NOT going to die!
