Sitting in my car today I heard a Mary Hopkins song, Those were the days sung in 1978

Who can remember singing Those were the days we thought we would never lose, we would sing and shout for the boys in blue and white .......I am sure there was more. This was the year we won the old 2nd Division.

Can any of you cast your mind back over the years to songs which were sung but not heard of nowadays.

Ipswich, Ipswich to the Amazing Grace Band in the mid 70s with scarfs held high (like you'll never walk alone). I remember being in the 'Holte End' Aston Villa stadium 75 for the semi-final against West Ham belting that out with 20,000 plus Town fans. 'Knees up mother brown' .. on the old terraces with all linking arms and jumping around!

There's more of us to come, there's more of us to come etc

As a youngster just starting out in the Northstand use to love that, watching all the lads walking across the car park singing and chanting, some wearing the old butchers coats with loads of Town badges sawn on.

I remember walking in the tunnel under the stand with Town fans, thousands packed together.

I say 'walking', my feet couldn't actually touch the ground at some point and it was a battle to keep upright. Bit scary for a teenager but when we got up to the stands, I was taken aback at how big the ground was.

How about making the old North Stand bounce to ‘Knees up mother Brown’ or a bit later in time, ‘He’s here he’s there he’s every f***ing where Johnny Walk, Johnny Walk’?

Beattie's goal in that 4-1 thrashing remains the best i've ever witnessed and the thought of it still brings a tear to my eye and a lump to my throat. As Barty Davies commentated, 'oh the power, the power, oh what a goal!'

Bertie Mee said to Bill Shankley,
Have you heard of the North Bank Highbury,
Shanks said no, I don't think so,
But I've heard of the West Stand Ipswich.

For us wrinklies it was "Keep right on to the end of the road". It truly did carry all round the ground in the late fifties early sixties.
