I had to have a think about it because I don't really think The Clash works that well as a genre. They were just too eager to take influences from all over from punk to rock to reggae and ska.
But they were angry and political too. I suppose that mix of music styles, energy and lyrics would lead me to someone like The The and Matt Johnson. But I think I got into both around the same time so maybe that's why I see the association.
Give The The a go anyway. And lots of great suggestions on the thread too.

Can't agree with you there man. Generation Terrorists and The Holy Bible are both proper good albums.
Dubbers is bang on here. The Holy Bible is a stone-cold classic album. Richey's last furious stand. Anything after that i'm largely indifferent to but that album was one I loved.
X ray spex germ free adolescences is a must. Also American stuff such as blank generation by Richard hell, Mission of Burma, dead Kennedys. The Buzzcocks of course. Also not punk but if you like the clash get any if not all of the holy trinity of reggae albums, junior murvin police and theives, max romeo war ina Babylon, and party time by the Heptones. All three will change your life for the better.

The man is a genius. I still have a signed ticket from a gig I saw him, where he signed it “happy birthday”. It had never been suggested nor was it my birthday, though it the best early present I’ve ever had.
