Big aims but all support appreciated. It’s better natural and not as a housing development. Counter action and protest/objection comes in many forms, even if unsuccessful numbers are good. Crowdfunder to buy/protect White Elm woodlands… on 14:46 - Nov 30 with 2246 views | Bangor31 | Surely an easier way to stifle any developement in the land would be to put a protection order on the trees? You can do several trees at a time.

I’m pretty sure our neighbours have done that and more in previous battles. This has been going on around 15 years.

Crowdfunder to buy/protect White Elm woodlands… on 17:21 - Nov 30 with 2073 views | StochesStotasBlewe | My grandparents lived in Cavendish street all their married lives. As a youngster back in the 60's and early 70's, spent many happy times around there although can't remember if we played in the woods or not. Have bunged a bit in anyway and really hope they get a positive outcome.
| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

Crowdfunder to buy/protect White Elm woodlands… on 17:25 - Nov 30 with 2058 views | The_Major | If you look on the map, White Elm Street forms a complete loop off Cavendish Street. Looking on street view, only the two bits adjoining Cavendish Street are tarmac. The connecting bit parallel to Bishops Hill looks like it should be a pathway, but it's so overgrown, it looks you'd have to hack your way through it with a machete like Indiana Jones.

From email 6 Dec 2021, 20:00 "White Elm Woodland update Dear wonderful supporters and all interested people. We are overwhelmed with your generosity and cannot thank you enough for the support received to date. Your messages make clear how much this project and the woodland are valued and how important it is we do all we can to protect it. To this end we are making a couple of changes to our crowdfund target and deadline date. The target was set at an ambitious £30k and whilst it's incredible how much we have raised so quickly, we need to lower this target. The reason for this is that we are using an 'all or nothing' Crowdfunding method where, upon the deadline date, funds are either passed through to the bank if we have hit our target, or returned to supporters if we haven't. We therefore need to make sure we hit our target and so we are reducing it to £15K which we feel is achievable as opposed to the £30k which we feel is not. We are extending the deadline to noon on the 14th December - the day before our sealed bid has to be submitted to the Estate Agent. Crowdfunder are giving us extra time after then while we wait to hear whether our bid has been successful or not. We have added a 'stretch target' which essentially gives us the space for funds over and above the £15k to be added to our Crowdfunder (should we be so lucky!), and so whatever we have by the 14th is what we will bid for the woodland. We have a small amount also being held by a local charity for us so this will be added into our grand total also. Fundamentally nothing has changed and so we hope the change to the target and date meets with your approval. Please do come back with any questions which we will be happy to answer. Thank you again for all of your support White Elm Woodland Group" [Post edited 7 Dec 2021 3:39]

Crowdfunder to buy/protect White Elm woodlands… on 18:16 - Jan 2 with 1464 views | Ryorry | Good news update today:- "White Elm Woodland New Year update Dear wonderful supporters Thank you to each and every one of you for supporting our Crowdfunder appeal and helping us to raise an amazing £17K in three weeks! Your generosity and comments touched our hearts and encouraged us to carry on doing all we could right up to the very deadline. Our bid was supported by some external funders and submitted as planned, and while I can’t share a conclusive outcome yet, I remain optimistic that White Elm Woodland can be secured and our ambitions realised. We will update you as soon as we can with further news, but that the timing of 'what next' etc is also down to others, including the vendor, and it might be a few weeks until more information can be provided. But please rest assured we continue working on this and as soon as we have news we will share this with you. Happy New Year to you all Very best wishes Faye"

Crowdfunder to buy/protect White Elm woodlands… on 15:22 - Jan 3 with 1270 views | lizzibee | A few points. To get a TPO there needs to be amenity value in the trees either as a group or individual. They can’t be used to frustrate development but has anyone had a chat to the council tree officer? Regarding moving newts etc - I would advise against it as it’s illegal and it’s been tried before and not worked. It doesn’t look a development site to me anyway but maybe the best route woukd be to speak to the council formally and get their view before buying the land? Get the professional view before spending lots of money.

Yeah a good victory. I was gonna post this but forgot! My cats and I will remain happy explorers. If you’ve got the feet and agility for it that woodland is amazing. Got a stream up there and everything. Hopefully the council can make it more accessible for the enjoyment of all.
