Assuming that both letters are an honest account of events, it looks to me like a question of processes and semantics. Kwarteng's line of "You have asked me to stand aside as your Chancellor. I have accepted." suggests to me that it was the traditional ultimatum of "resign or be sacked". | |

Apparently it's the conventional layout of such letters that the name of the recipient goes at the bottom - some folks on Twitter have posted examples of letters from other PMs.
It generally looks better when the text of the letter doesn't take up the entire page, otherwise it looks like the author doesn't even know their own name. [Post edited 14 Oct 2022 14:06]
