What did you think of Hutchinson when he came on yesterday?

Will probably get several negative votes for this but just stating my own honest opinion here. It might just be me - but to me he looked a little nonchalant / dissinterested, and I was expecting better if i'm completely honest. Either that or he was a little bit lost out there. Showed a couple of good touches but didn't pass when he should have and wasn't as committed to running back. He currently has the lowest player rating from our team at time of writing.

I know he's young but he didn't look like he had that fire in his belly that some kids have. Now I don't know it's thats just because of the occasion, his natural playing style or just his newness to the team - I know we play a very intense game that he he is probably not used to. I need to state I'm not writing him off - it would be stupid to write off a 19 year old after 20 minutes of his senior debut at a new team. All I'm saying is I was a little disappointed with him yesterday. I hope he gets better as he gets used to us and how we play.

What did you all think?

Tbf the game was chaos at that point and Town had little in the way of control with which to give him the opportunity to shine. I think he has a huge learning curve ahead of him tbh.

Chaos is a good word. The more subs we made the more we struggled and it felt like we were playing with 10 men. In previous years we would have caved so great to see us grind it out

I think I would tend to agree. He looks a skilful but raw player who has some rapid developing to do if he is going to make an impact for us during the season. However, that was his first minutes in a new team and we had already lost any grip on the game. He made a poor choice not squaring to Morsey when he was through. He looked more Edwards than Burns.

I am sure McKenna would not have brought him here if he didn't think we will see much better from him before long. I am looking forward to seeing him get a full game on Wednesday.

Still finding his feet. Players who were regulars last season took a good 15mins to settle at this level, even with their strong understanding of each others game. He had to integrate into that and find himself in our system. He retained the ball well, slowed play when we needed it, and set up harness well.

With that said, he also looks below the level we need right now. So will need to improve.

"Disinterested" is nonsense.

It's been 20mins. Way to early to make firm judgements.

Far to causal for me gave the ball away cheaply out of the subs the one I felt McKenna got wrong if people don't feel you can disagree with a McKenna decision.
Not on the bench but to see that game out Aluko would have been perfect.

I've just re-watched the last 25 mins again from the point where Hutchinson came on (thanks to the poster who posted the youtube link).

On 2nd viewing I think I may a little harsh on him ref the dissinterested and tracking back part of my original post. On re-watching I think KMc told him to sit a bit deeper rather than press the Sunderland defence up high as we'd done earlier in the game which is where I'd judged him yesterday - and he did come back into his own half, track his man and attempt some tackles even if he didn't win the ball.

I do however stand by the original comment that he did look a bit lost and made the wrong decision on several occasions. Don't think he's ready to start in the league just yet but with some coaching and minutes off the bench and in the cup by 2nd half of the season he may come good. In the meantime I think he is still very raw and will have good moments but requires patience. I guess I was a victim of the hype behind him and expected him to be something which he isn't just yet. Over to you KMc and the coaching staff.

I was actually impressed with his defensive work. When he pressed, he had a nice habit of disrupting the opponent or getting a foot in when you wouldnt expect him to. Quick feet, good reactions.

far too soon to have a view. mckenna thinks he's good enough.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

You seem to misunderstanding the OP. He asked for peoples thoughts so far. I've given them based on him funnily enough... so far and the OP asked for our thoughts not what we think the management team think.

Frimmers.

You’re an actual genius. Only you could write something like you’ve yet to see anything Hutch (I don’t like the shortening of his name for starters) can do that Humphreys can’t, be called on out it correctly as they are totally different types of players and then state the person who rightly called you out has misunderstood the OP when he’s responding to the absolute bobbins you spouted.

And there’s totally no acknowledgment of the bobbins just a deflection.

I’ve tended to view your spats with Stokie pretty ambivalently but I truly do get why you trigger him or her.

If you do it on purpose…bravo! Amazing. You’ve done me too and I spend next to no time on here compared to many!

Edit -
The name shortening thing. I know that’s my problem. Just the Hutch thing. It grates me. But I don’t blame you for that!

Maybe it's a genAI bot that Gav has been developing... the previous incarnation aka Makers came out around the time the models were being more widely commercialised... hmmm.

Frimmers has some sound observations too, but it's hard not to be triggered by the brain scrambling pants stuff.

prefer to see Kyle Edwards myself, I think he's terrific at taking on tiring defences and think he is unlucky not to get my game time.

OP: I’d say some valid points / observations made, which I can’t support or texture as couldn’t watch the game unfortunately. But if his attitude isn’t where it should be, he will get some education under our coaching staff for sure, and that’ll include application, decision making and the old favourite with young attackers, that tracking back & defending part of their game. He’s come here to make that step up to the senior game and it’ll be a steep learning curve for sure. He’ll go back a far better player of that I have no doubt.

I thought the not running back was a tactical ploy to exploit Sunderland and go for the third to kill the game off. Surprised Jackson never made it on. In hindsight, it would have been a smarter move as he’d have squared that ball rather than take the shot on.

It is troubling to say the least, that people are already trying to paint a young player (who just happens to be from a particular background....) with that tired old brush. On the basis of seeing him with 14 minutes left on the clock, when we were under the cosh, and in a game where most of the team took 20 minutes or more to get up to speed and start performing... This entire thread is ridiculous.

The Frimbot isn’t always wrong, in amongst the indiscriminate spray of opinions on literally everything I find stuff like the interest in the new grass growing quite warming. I do also admire his energy and relentless moving on from being proved wrong and then doubling down on the thing he’s been proved wrong on. It really is quite impressive in a Trumpian sort of way.

If Frimmers was a weapon (some may say he is), he’d be banned under international law and Assad would probably have bunkers full of him.

If is indeed AI then he could be turned into a power for good if he was unleashed on the enemies of freedom and democracy and frankly he’s wasted here.

This whole lazy "developing players for other teams" line gets rolled out all the time like we aren't getting anything out of it.

We're getting a really talented player we couldn't otherwise get. He might take a bit of time but we'll get value of good young loan. They might not all come off like any signing but if it does it's win win and not just "developing him for them".

And if it goes really well then...."Plymouth developed a lot of players for ...well Plymouth as it turns out"

My take is Hutchinson has looked exactly like a young player finding their feet. He's done some really good things and some naive/careless things. More he plays the more the balance will tip to the positives.

I think the last line here can be summed up by the old classic "a broken clock is right twice a day".

I didn't think he was the best sub option either.

That's a criticism (though not really) of McKenna, not Hutchinson.

Frimbot!! Sooo good.😂😂

I have this image now of Frimbot being unleashed on the frontline. Saunters into trench and just starts talking football anti-logic with troops scrambling to escape the madness of it.
