Worst ever loan signing 16:29 - Feb 27 with 6470 viewsDubtractor

As an alternative to the best loanee thread, how about a worst loanee?

Two stand out for me.

Tony Dinning
Danny Karbassiyoon

Both utterly hopeless

Who is your pick?

I always thought that Keanan Bennetts was particularly useless but could be harsh to say that he was one of our worst ever loan signings.

I remember thinking that Anthony Georgiou was a pointless loan signing as well but can’t actually remember that much about him on the pitch.

I seem to recall Rory Fallon being less popular than any mentioned so far.

Was Luke Matheson around the same time too?

Yeah - I thought that he would prove to be a good signing - shows what I know.

I should have added a no Mark Fish clause. Feels like cheating.

It’s got to be Connor Salmon. A tin of salmon would have been far more use.

His goal where the defender hit the ball into the keeper, bouncing off him and then favourably giving Salmon a tap in was the perfect only goal for him.

Remember some Derby fans telling me just how awful he was when he arrived. Always fun to see in the flesh though.

He had an annoying habit of being technically great and being able to face the opposition really quickly….and then doing absolutely nothing. Not sure I remember another Town player being able to look good on the ball but being so non-descript with it.

Some of Burley's were absolutely dreadful:

- Gerry Creaney
- David Whyte
- Michael Clegg
- David Kerslake

and shouldn't be ignored because Lambert signed some dreadfully poor players on loan more recently.

Karbasiyoon cost us promotion with that Reading game, but obviosuly unfair to dump a youngster into a problem defensive position.

Not a loan but Adam Proudlock on a short-term contract deserves a mention.

He's just moved on loan to Bohemians in the League of Ireland from Bolton. Career has stalled alarmingly since his Rochdale days. Was really very impressive against us for them and looked like he'd got the potential to go a long way.

And yet he scored goals and won us matches. HE was sh1te but there's a whole tier of player who never got close to that level.

There was a player in the Burley pre-promotion years who I can't remember if they were a loan or a short term contract. Either way, they were awful and the players actively avoided passing the ball to him, my mind says Abou - but that probably is just because we always sounded like we were booing him that it gets muddled in to the thought process.

He was dreadful. My tin of salmon could have put that ball away.

Another turkey was Chris Wood. Came here and they had to buy back Nathan Ellington’s shorts from the tall ship using them as a mainsail.

A seem to remember Wood was recovering from injury. It certainly wasn’t an eating disorder. Fat as a barrel. He waddled about for eight games according to Wiki. Eight too many.

Next season Wood turned out for Leeds. He must have lost about three stone. Lean, fit he scored 41 goals in 83 appearances terrorising defences. Brilliant for Leeds, a useless disgrace for us.

Nearly any one of Lambert's Loans would have a strong case to argue but Josh Harrop is surely the nadir?

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.
