The FA are getting the blame for this, but it is not the FA who continually allow more English clubs into European competitions each season. We came second in 1981 with a nucleus of 14 players in a league of 21. Players and managers in the ‘Elite’ Premierships sides are complaining about too many games, but the only reason for this is the expansion of the European leagues which are no longer knock out tournaments, but mini leagues. We are sleepwalking into a European Superleague. |  | | |

A fair point, except there aren't too many games. It's a narrative bing built by the big clubs who are now bigger than ever - and better able to cope with the very problem they're pointing at.

If the issue is number of matches, rather than scrapping replays they could give sides the option of conceding the tie after a draw instead of facing the replay. I doubt any side would actually do so.
It is like the fact the "big" clubs use any gap in the fixture list to go and play in Asia instead. |  |

Great point about the squad sizes and all the poaching of youngsters and they can't field a squad for an extra game once every five years. |  | | |
