Operation ‘top tier to pitch’… 15:20 - May 2 with 2853 viewsMatt_Netherlands

I’ve been going to town games for 25 years but have never been on the pitch other than for a birthday party (those really were the days).

I’m assuming lots of others sat in the top tiers would want to get on the pitch IF(!) we have something to celebrate but there’s not a realistic route there. Too much of a risk to exit the ground and hope to get back in!

Any chance we can turn the north stand into a one tier Kop by Saturday?

Just stand and admire (with a ‘fruit shoot’ full of something nice, enjoyed watching last years as much as I did running on in 2000 (probably an age thing)

We’ll be good again... one day

Coming down the stairs, the doors to lower north are usually open, whether this will be different Saturday? Or you could try the lift at the end if no disabled supporters are using them :o)

Doors are never usually open the way I go, an half of the doors have been fenced off anyway.

Lift idea probably the best.

Yeah was going to say I’ve never seen any doors open!

Im taking tied bedsheets with me, securing them to the bar and then shimmy down to the lower tier, before running onto the pitch

When the Pioneer stand was first built my dad convinced me that they'd installed an emergency inflatable evacuation slide, like the aeroplane slides, which would be deployed from the back of the stand at the top. Think there is a hatch at the back which they used to hoist up cameras/stuff to the media area so was quite convinced at the time (I was about 8).

Would be handy for getting down for pitch invasions, but quite dangerous in hindsight.

Sounds a good plan. Never seen anyone using bedsheets at a town game get any stick…..

I was up in Cobbold for the Bolton play-off and I got on to the pitch by simply going down the stairs and entering via the lower bit. Is that option off the table these days?

Email Ashton requesting him to let stewards allow fans through from the top tier, everyone who wants to celebrate in that way deserves too.

If he doesn't reply, make sure you get down to the lower before the 90th minute incase they begin blocks.

It was quite an afternoon. Watching dozens of blokes dressed as Hare Krishnas running on the executive boxes. From memory they were trying to get the match abandoned - but my memory could be wrong.

Late 80s I think.

90-91.

They stayed up anyway after all that.

It was more ludicrous then anything. One bloke ran on from memory during the game. Only thing missing was Benny Hill music.

We invaded the pitch at the end, the Leicester came on and took some swipes. One Town fan took his jeans belt off and was swinging it at the Leicester like a lassoo and they backed off.

At the Churchmans exit, it was like a funnell, Town fans walking into punches and having no choice but to swing out themselves. I landed 2 punches and missed with about 18.

The Leicester lot were starting on people as far out of town as the Ferodo bridge on Norwich Road.

I can remember seeing some familiar faces when it all went to court.

From a health and safety the club really should let supporters in the cobbold into the bottom tier at full time, the risk of hundreds heading over the exec boxes is much greater than fans going onto the pitch.
