There have been some great Scottish speakers who combine oratory with passion.
One of the finest was Jimmy Reid and following speech was printed in full in the New York Times and described by the paper as ‘the greatest speech since President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address’.
it was a great speech, almost 20mins long,some of the invited guests werent happy about sitting in the Texas heat for that long having spent a few hours already waiting for him to turn up.
the opening part alone could be replayed in any era, any decade, its timeless
but I always think his closing remarks about George Mallory are the best part, probably because it rarely gets heard, but it sums up the whole point he was making in that speech.
