That’s how spoilt we’ve been under McKenna; never really had a bad run. Ever. In two and a half years. Absolute madness. Obviously that’s about to change but my word, what a run.

Those draws against Rotherham and Brum was the start of our 'cracking' according to our rivals.

Yep! Also, trying to recall when the “lucky Ipswich” narrative became a thing. Leicester at home with the double deflection Morsy goal the obvious starting point for that but not sure if it had been mentioned prior.

Funnily enough, think both run of results coincided with lots of illness in the camp.

To be fair, quite a few of our own fans threw in the towel a few times during the season too.

Yep, lost count of how many times I had to refer to people as wet wipes and point out that at least the players have a lot more bottle than the fans. The towel was thrown in many times by many posters, some of us always kept the faith.

In the future, I hope that our flakiest fans will remember that the season is based on a full season of games, not a handful of your worst results, nor the run of best form. Patience pays off!

Not so. We had won 3 League games out of 11, we weren't going to get automatic promotion, but McKenna realised that, signed Luongo, Broadhead & Clarke & the rest is history. Without that action in the window, we might still be languishing in the 3rd tier. That's what good managers do.

To put it in even more perspective, on 11th February we were in 4th place on 60 points, while Sunderland were 6th on 47 points

They gained a further 9 points from their final 15 games and finished 16th, while we took 36 points from 16 games.

Unbelievable final third of the season from us under pressure.

That final third and a bit: played 16 won 11 drawn 3 lost 2. We rose to the challenge while Leeds and Saints crumbled.

I suppose that depends on how you define ‘bad’. We’ve gone down to averaging about 1 point per game on the 6 game form table a time or two. That’s close to relegation form, but obviously isn’t a worry if you bounce back. And there’s often a narrative explaining the dips, so they’ve been less about bad performances.

That bounce-back-ability is the thing that’s really stood out for me. We don’t let a defeat get us down. And even more impressively, they even seem to get annoyed by wins if the performance wasn’t right. He’s a perfectionist and on top of that we’re so resilient it’s ridiculous. It’s the opposite of all the managers under ME. Then we’d occasionally have false dawns only to be left disappointed again. Now we occasionally drop some points only to return to business as usual again.

You'd have thought that a lot of them would have learnt, having spent a lot of last season filling their nappies every time we got a draw.

I still can't believe someone phoned up radio Suffolk to say McKenna should be sacked after one of those home draws.

I doubt it, but I hope that fella has learnt something in the last 16 months.
