Remembrance Day minute silence on the 24th October. 20:00 - Oct 24 with 2675 viewsSitfcB

UWN.

Clubs so afraid of offending people these days.

Just waters it down for the attending fans IMO - and nobody ever does it right, the silence is supposed to be after the Last Post.

I see a lot of far lefties trying to attach "far rightness" to anything traditional in this country, these days.
And no one is buying it , anymore.

A very old couple, yesterday, sat outside my local supermarket. Possibly in their 80's. Taking donations and offering poppies to shoppers.
A million miles away from anything "hijacked by the far right".

I'm a middle aged white man... According to Gary Neville, that makes me a racist?

Terms like, Racist, Faschist, Far Right etc.. Are completely losing their impact and true meaning. When they are spouted constantly for no reason.
The majority of our country are bored of it.

The boys and men of whole villages and towns gave their lives in WW1 and WW2.
They must be remembered, in a dignified fashion, for theirs and their families sacrifices.

I'm really struggling to understand the point you're trying to make here.

Who would ever consider an elderly couple selling poppies to be far right?
I'm also a middle aged white man and have never been accused of being a racist. I don't know for sure but I suspect that's probably because I don't do or say racist things.

People who wrap themselves in our flag, claim to be 'protecting statues', attack the police and then piss on war memorials on the other hand...

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Literally no one has said this shouldn’t happen. If you think the far right element in this country aren’t attaching themselves to military remembrance then you aren’t looking very hard. And that’s not at all what Neville said.

That's just not true though, is it?

Think the FA ruling is that clubs should hold their silence on the last home game before Remembrance Sunday.

The international break has messed it all up.

That Jardins pub place on Lakes Road in Braintree will likely have a nice, understated display of Remembrance as it tends to do...

Complete with a cenotaph.

The absolute state of that.

No, what you see is the far right trying to attach themselves to tradition and make it theirs alone. True patriots know that adorning everything in flags and poppies is very unBritish and goes against tradition.

Subtle and quiet pride and reflection are the way it’s done. Not aping American bombast and classlessness.

Neville didn’t call you racist, in the same way he didn’t call me racist. The fact you either don’t understand the difference or don’t want to is the problem.

What absolute rot. When people stop painting roundabouts and posting AI pictures of a Palestinian soldier in Hollywoodesque faux-mediaeval knight's armour, riding an African big cat, then we can have a serious debate.

But the fact remains that the far right have hijacked perfectly decent traditions and turned them into right wing tropes such as the piling-on of anyone on TV caught not wearing a poppy from October onwards.

But I honestly don't see that, though...
I see/hear a lot of far left telling me that anything British is far right.

I'm sick of it...

They've awoken a lot of non voters to vote Reform.

Yeah, that's just nonsense apologising for supporting Russian assets, failed Tories and traitors.
