So how did we play yesterday? 10:39 - Nov 2 with 1302 viewsWallingford_Boy

4-1 suggests an easy win, but doesn’t seem that’s the case.

Decent overall?

Who played well/not so well?

Tbf we were always too good for them , we scored, the stadium was quiet apart from us but we gave them a way back into the game.... our fragile confidence then caused indecisiveness which gave them a bit of a lift and livened up their support. Half time came at a good time in that respect and thankfully whatever happened in there worked, we started brightly and won a free kick which crucially restored order and our confidence. From there we never looked back and for the rest of the game we remained dominant. Hopefully we kick on from here and this new squad does start to total more than the sum of its parts as that would be a very exciting prospect.

Probably not 4-1 well, but convincingly enough to be fully worth the win. Very scrappy for 20 minutes after their equaliser but I never felt in much trouble as long as we didn't shoot ourselves in the foot again. In the second half it was simply a case of quality making itself tell and we didn't need to overexert for the final quarter. Hopefully we can see this more often.

People were moaning again at HT but I thought it was similar to the the WBA game. We stayed professional and didn't really give them anything bar a Walton mistake.

Saying that, it was massive for Nunez to step up with moments of quality, something we've been relying on Philogene for up until now.

Just as important was us showing a threat and scoring from our right hand side, this will be massive when teams look to stop Jaden.

I thought we were poor 1st half and they were better. We played so negatively other than 1st minute, sidewards passing or going back and I thought we would get caught at the back. We came back into it end 1st half. Nunez ran his socks off though.

2nd half, that free kick goal helped the confidence and I think we realised if we attacked them on both wings we had the beating of them. 3rd goal a joy to watch. After the 4th I thought we managed the game brilliantly. Still looked like we wanted to gift them another goal with defensive mistakes. Credit to Azor 2nd half I thought he dominated the midfield.

Probably not a 4-1 but in the moments that counted we had greater quality and comfortable for last 3rd of the game.

Good enough.

In patches we were decent, in other patches we were a bit clunky and in other patches we looked a bit nervous and fragile…. The OTT reaction to the Charlton and less extent Boro games cut deeper than we realised.

But we were too good for Rangers.

Sinders is improving every week, Matusiwa is everywhere, Hirst was more like his old self and the goals will have done him a power of good.
Good to see Nunez score a couple as well, and Taylor was quietly effective too.

Wasn't he at fault for their goal tho?

I like Taylor.... I can't really say i noticed him or he stood out but that is really what you want in a regular midfielder, someone who goes about his job and importantly not standing out as the cause of a mistake....though he did have the dodgy pass back into the 6 yard box which led to a corner. Other than that I thought he was very efficient I believe the more he plays in a settled position the better he will get.

Harsh to blame Davis for that alone. Him and Kipre could have reacted more quickly but I think they thought Walton would catch it or parry to left away from goal and if he did Davis was ready to retrieve it. Just how I saw it.

Davis was much better defensively yesterday than usual, won a lot of headers.

I'm not sure the reaction is quite the issue but more davis dropped to deep leaving the scorer onside by a mile.

Oshea and Kipre were well positioned it appears on the replays

Maybe I didn't look at the possible offside.

Thought we came out the blocks well for first 20 minutes..
Stuttered a bit for 15 minutes after they scored. But didn't show any real signs that we would cave in.. If anything, we looked like the home side, imo.
There were some weird bouts of head tennis at times.. Not sure whether it was them trying to bypass our midfield ala Charlton. But we dealt with it pretty well.
Our 2nd goal came at just the right time. And we were very comfortable after that..
At 1-3, Walton makes a good save. Could've been very uncomfortable had that gone in to make it 2-3..

Matusiwa, again, and Taylor scrapping and ratting about. Were the difference makers for me...Aside from our goals and the players involved in them.
Imo, our pivot gave us a lot of control and protected the space in front of our defence.
Also, Egelli dropping quite deep when out of possession, helped nullify any threat in MF just inside our half.

We've got classy individuals. But I'm starting to notice little "packs" working together more. Building relationships on the pitch. Growing better understandings.

Big pat on the back from me, for that result... Think QPR had only lost once at home before yesterday.

Side notes.....One thing I like about Walton, is the speed at which he tries to release the ball to get us going forwards..
Also, starting to notice Matusiwa offering himself to the keeper more. In that Morsy way, on the D of the box...

Actually tbf it's pretty tight, i do think though Davis can see the scorer so he's got to track him, in that moment kipre's eyes firmly on the ball he's got no clue the scorer is running in on goal.
