More Tory snouts in the trough 11:20 - May 16 with 938 viewsHARRY10

" Health secretary Matt Hancock has insisted it was “perfectly reasonable” for him to help a former Conservative MP win a PPE deal worth £180 million."

"On 1 June the Department of Health awarded a £178 million contract for protective goggles to the firm without a competitive tendering process."

"Documents show that in May last year Patel attempted to secure a personal protective equipment (PPE) deal for the healthcare firm Pharmaceuticals Direct Ltd (PDL).

But PDL was awarded a £102.7m contract weeks later in July to provide a different type of mask. On both occasions, Samir Jassal was Patel’s contact at PDL. Jassal has stood as a Conservative candidate at two general elections and has met Boris Johnson and David Cameron."

It's no wonder fat boy wants the enquiry into all this to be delayed - as the numbers involved begin to pile up
let the bodies and the money pile up - as this list shows all too well

This was always going to happen after Hancock announced, at the very beginning, that they would pay whatever the cost for PPE. They were so desperate to get equipment regardless of cost.

Due to a decision made pre Covid to cut back on the numbers of suppliers for each piece of equipment.

Think the biggest story today is Lister signing off the biggest homebuilder loan for luxury flats in Stratford as chairman of the board, to a company that is paying him as well.

The Tories are able to bat off the PPE stuff as ‘just doing what they had to do’ but this stuff is/was happening everywhere before the pandemic

In some respects you are giving them too much credit. From what I saw there was not a grand plan to line the pockets of mates, just a blind panic to find stuff quick via whatever networks they had. It was, in the main, pragmatic (albeit painfully tinpot), rather than wilfully corrupt.

Nope, that is you just trying to spin things.

When the Tories took over on 2010, the NHS was fully stocked with PPE having learnt from the earlier SARS outbreak what would be needed.

As with the flooding in Somerset the Tory government sought to cut the necessary funding. And even after the CYGNUS exercise which flagged up the dire position the government had put the NHS in, no action was taken

A MUST READ

"Phillip Lee, the former Liberal Democrat MP who was a Conservative minister at the time of Cygnus, said the exercise had a very sobering impact on government. “We knew we were not prepared for a pandemic from the Cygnus report,” Lee said. “It was a mistake not to publish it at the time. If we were not going to act on the lessons, then what was the point of the exercise?”

The glaring truth is that no action was taken - and so when COVID19 hit it was mass panic ............................to .see who could fill their boots.

The misdirection (LIE) PB peddles must not be allowed to become our mythical 'stab in the back'

If this was in the commercial, not the political, world, then this would clearly be a case of negligence " ......who fails to take proper care to avoid what a reasonable person would regard as a foreseeable risk."

And as with so much else....sleaze, corruption and malfeasance the enquiry and reports have been delayed, or buried.

(below) absolutely damning - and a level of lying even Johnson might shy away from

Silly me, I thought it best to approach a real live medical devices manufacturer to make medical equipment as opposed to your ex neighbour and landlord.

They might have been desperate I grant you, but your ex neighbour and landlord was really the best and only option, in the country/world ?

which purely by chance happened

"to line the pockets of mates"

yes, that is it

strange that NONE of the questionable contracts have been non Tory connected

I omitted the link in the post above which I said was a must read, so

the UK was in the sorry state it was in early 2020 because it chose to ignore the recommendations of Exercise Cygnus

we owe it to those who died, and their relatives to ensure the truth is told - much as with Hillsborough

we cannot allow their lie to become the story, nor allow the cranks to continue to peddle that myth....unchallenged and not refuted

UK ventilator manufacturers were ignored by the UK govt. and they exported to Germany.

Dyson got bespoke tax breaks and didn't deliver a single ventilator.

Only the corrupt would defend it all.

Many, many of the contracts dished out without proper tender process had no Tory connection. It’s no great surprise that these have not been ‘questioned’ in the same way.

As you of highlight, it is Cygnus that is the real story. The focus needs to be on that - without the hysteria.

Reading your posts is like reading the Parrot Sketch script.

As long as some of the contracts have yet to show up any sign of Tory favouritism, those that do are OK !

Where is there any hysteria - other than that imagined by you ?

"The Audit Office points to the case of Pestflix, a pest control supplier, whose £350million worth of contracts included the supply of 600,000 masks. But on delivery, it turned out that these masks did not meet the standards for hospital use."

we send Pestflix £350m, let's fund our NHS instead

meanwhile

"The owner of a dog food firm brokered personal protective equipment deals worth £258m between the government and a Hong Kong firm, a BBC investigation has found." Though she claimed that "she was approached by the UK's Covid taskforce" ....... a measure of her integrity is that her dog food company is endorsed by the Duke of Kent (him of the Putin lobbying scam)

Now some of the less subservient among us might wonder why a government agency might consider a dog food company would be the first ones you would contact when looking for PPE. More so that if was only AFTER an agreement had been made that an actual company was set up to deal with the contract

Perhaps because it had as one of its lobbyists one Brooks Newmark, a former Tory MP who stood down as an MP after a sex scandal - and it is also a mere coincidence that another one of Hancocks mates, a former pub landlord was awarded a hefty contract to supply PPE.

Though in this case it was rigorously denied, until.................... 'he conceded that he has in fact exchanged text and email messages with Hancock over several months.

Some might suggest that great advantage was taken by numerous Tory MPs to push through, unchecked, costly and in some cases useless contracts to their 'mates'. Of course with NO suggestion that any of that money might find it's way back to them ..... or an offshore bank account in the name of Rosie

But all is not lost, the truth will come out
