Not at Lords though, the chorus of booing was loud enough to have woken the most ancient of blazers who'd already dropped off for a snooze.

There's no winning is there? Either they disrupt things (which is what protests should do) and people complain about being slightly inconvenienced. Or they protest more traditionally and everyone ignores them anyway. No matter what happens clearly no one is listening while the planet continues to die. But hey at least we'll have slightly earlier start times for the cricket eh? [Post edited 28 Jun 2023 11:42]

Why don't they disrupt oil companies?

Unfortunately they are p1ssing in the wind. Until China, USA and India make drastic changes we are doomed. Our 30m households can use their heating less and buy less sh1te from Amazon, but that isn’t going to offset China’s 1,000+ (and counting) coal burning power stations.

Or, if everyone stopped demanding cheap consumables..... We are guilty of driving demand.

Yeah, it needs to be put into context. India emits loads but their per capita is very low and they have nearly 20% of the world population. China is bad and their per capita is high (although still not as high as say the US) but they also produce massive amounts of the world's goods. It was a very clever sleight of hand that many nations that have moved manufacturing to China and other places now claim low emissions because they can pretend the goods they import come with 0 emissions just because they were not produced here. If you factor in consumption we are actually really bad, although these stats are a bit out of date. https://ourworldindata.org/consumption-based-co2

It’s largely unavoidable unless you are making a conscious effort to make a big purchase like a MG (which also directly funds the regime since it’s partly state owned). The only way that will stop is by slapping huge tarriffs on products made in China.

The per capita measurement is pointless in saving the planet though, other than finger pointing. Only total output matters.

As Dan says though, it's only unavoidable because we shipped manufacturing to countries with cheaper labour.

Yep but all our politicians are too feeble to put up trade barriers with China. A belligerent regime in addition to environmental concerns.

I disagree, it's definitely worth looking at. If they have a population that is 20x times the size of ours I think it's really unrealistic to then ignore why they emit so much in comparison to ourselves. It removes any context or nuance from the statistics.

The eco systems on the planet really don't care which human construct 'nations' behind human construct artificial borders are slowly killing them.
