That we will have played Leeds twice before having played Leicester at all. I wonder how that quirk of the fixture list came about.

It is the same every season, there is always one team that clubs play twice at that time of year.

Yes, when KM joined us after 23 games we'd played everyone once except Sunderland who we'd played twice but hadn't played Gillingham at all.

THink you may have misunderstood the quirk I was referring to.

We played Leeds in August the first time, then again on December 23rd before we pay Leicester for the first time on 26th December.

That's not normal is it ? To have played one team twice before playing another for the first time, I can't recall it happening before.

Better still, by the end of January, we will have played all of the following away from home:
Leeds
Leicester
Southampton
WBA
Middlesbrough
Sunderland

All very difficult away games and we won't have to worry about them after January.

Good spot, how often does that happen?

December 23rd before we pay Leicester for the first time

Hope we're not going down the route of paying off opponents

Don't know but I do remember that one as he joined us right after the second Sunderland game and I think the Gillingham games were fairly close together. Illogical that you don't play everyone once then start again.

Yes, I was quoting a prior comment, but the date isn't helpful in the quote

Gillingham would have been on Boxing Day that season if it hadn't been postponed. Also for 2019/20 we played Gillingham twice before we played Lincoln. Presumably something to do with keeping Boxing Day matches closer.

Yes, although the first Gillingham game was postponed it was always scheduled for after the second Sunderland game, I think keeping Boxing Day relatively "local" without having a local Derby is what they do and Leicester is as local as they could schedule.

Just as crucial I feel that we have also already played the bottom 4 away.

When was the Norwich away match? I don't recall us having played that yet?

It's normal for the Boxing Day fixture to be the first time you meet that opponent so it depends how many matches have already been played.

Last season, Oxford on Boxing day was match 23, so the previous opponents had only met us once.

This season, Leicester on Boxing day is match 24, so match 23 (Leeds) is going to be against someone we've already met.
